Greenfields Organic Farm invites applications for
the position of Harvest Coordinator for the 2003
growing season.
Background:
Greenfields is a 100 acre certified organic mixed
vegetable farm. Produce is grown for farmers'
markets and wholesale accounts. We are
committed to organic philosophy and principles, but we
recognize that organic farming cannot be successful
if it is economically unsound.
The Harvest
Coordinator works closely with the Farm- and
Retail-Manager, and organizes, oversees and
actively assists with harvesting and trains
apprentices.
Duties:
The Harvest Coordinators responsibilities include,
but are not limited to:
- Weekly harvest schedules
- Daily harvest schedules
- Record keeping
- Transportation of harvest from field to packing shed
- Post harvest handling
- Manual harvest
- Quality Control
- Occasional transplanting & weeding
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will be a highly organized
individual who is experienced in organic vegetable
production with a commitment to economically
sound sustainable agriculture. The ability to work
independently in a fast-paced environment is
essential.
Experience teaching organic farming
methods is an asset. You will be expected to take an
active role in the planning of this year's harvest and
make independent decisions as needed.
Tasks also
include some work outside the scope of harvest.
Flexibility is a must. The role of Harvest
Coordinator is a good fit for persons hoping to
develop the necessary skills to advance within our
farm business or run their own organic farm in the
future.
Terms:
Greenfields offers a competitive salary plus on-site
accommodation. Staff and interns are housed in a
separate bungalow with full bathroom, kitchen and
laundry facilities. You must be eligible to work in
Canada. Given satisfactory performance,
arrangements may be extended beyond the growing
and harvest season.
