Description
Since 1987, Toxics Action Center (TAC) has assisted more than 300 neighborhood groups fighting pollution in their communities. Toxics Action Center trains and assists residents in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Maine in waging effective campaigns against stubborn polluters and red tape bureaucracies, pressuring officials to act to protect our neighborhoods' health and safety.
TAC is launching a safe energy campaign in Connecticut to shift our energy future away from nuclear and fossil fuel to energy efficiency and renewable energy sources. We are looking for a Safe Energy Community Organizer to work on this campaign.
Job Description
The Safe Energy Community Organizer will coordinate program and organizational activities of the campaign including:
1. Assist residents in their organizing to close the Millstone Nuclear Power Plant in Connecticut.
2. Promote the purchasing of green power by consumers.
3. Assist anti-nuclear work throughout New England.
4. Speak areawide on the dangers of nuclear power.
5. Develop and implement membership development, grantwriting, and grassroots fundraising events.
Location

Qualifications
Candidates should possess a strong commitment to environmental health and community organizing. A background in energy issues is preferred. Candidates for this position should have two or more years of relevant professional experience, post college. Relevant experience includes (but is not limited to) working in political, policy, legal, journalistic, or government settings. Advanced degrees, including a JD or masters in related fields, may count toward a candidate's professional experience. Salary & Benefits
Salary for this position ranges from $24,000 up, depending on the quality of the applicant and past work experience.
