~ The Fish and Wildlife Research Institute's work includes assessment and restoration of ecosystems and studies of freshwater and marine fisheries, aquatic and terrestrial wildlife, imperiled species, and red tides. ~
The institute develops the information science required to analyze and disseminate research products and engages in outreach activities to complement all programs.
Position Overview
We seek a postdoctoral scholar with a background in quantitative fisheries ecology and its application to management to analyze data from multiple acoustic telemetry projects being conducted throughout Florida as part of the Integrated Tracking of Aquatic Animals in the Gulf of Mexico (iTAG) initiative.
This is a full-time OPS position for 12 months, with potential renewal for another 12 months.
Responsibilities
- A specific objective will be to conduct a gap analysis on current acoustic telemetry infrastructure and spatial ecology of high priority Gulf of Mexico (GOM) managed fish species (based on stock status, landings, and life history patterns) and begin to evaluate how data from tagging studies can help inform ecosystem-based modeling.
- In this position, the candidate will analyze previously collected data sets, help with on-going telemetry studies, publish in peer-reviewed journals and give scientific presentations. In addition, the candidate will also help with iTAG outreach and meetings.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. in Biology, Ecology, Oceanography, Fisheries or a related discipline from an accredited institution, experience with acoustic telemetry research, a strong analytical background, and strong written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Criteria:
- Field experience including ability to drive a boat, sample with hook and line, dive, and conduct telemetry studies (surgical implantation and array maintenance) preferred.
