Position Overview 

Maryland Environmental Service has an opening for an Environmental Specialist III (Architectural Historian) at our State Highway Administration office in Baltimore, MD. 

Responsibilities 

• Duties involve planning, supervising, and conducting in-house surveys for historic structures, buildings, and bridges, as well as managing and reviewing the work of consultant architectural historians for our compliance under federal and state laws and regulations.
• The Architectural Historian (ESIII) will prepare cultural resources assessments for SHA projects, develop scopes of work for surveys, prepare requests for proposals, review and approve proposals.

Qualifications 

• include a Bachelor's Degree in a related field, plus 5 years of experience in environmental science, regulations, engineering or management, 2 years of which included managing environmental projects and supervising environmental professional and technical staff.
• Must have a valid driver's license with less than 5 points, and the ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Master's Degree in Architectural History or related field, 2 years of experience in cultural resources management, and experience in MD Architectural History and transportation agency experience a plus!
