Position Overview:
As a Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) Electrical Engineer, you will use your knowledge and experience to provide technical services and assistance (assessment/evaluation/analysis/support) for turbine installations in the USA. In particular, this position will support commissioning efforts of turbine electrical systems and after-installation service and troubleshooting activities.
This position can be physically demanding as projects sites are typically in remote locations, require ascending tall enclosed towers and involve working in cramped enclosures (tower, nacelle & hub) in difficult weather conditions.
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical support during installation, commissioning and operational stages of projects.
- Primary responsible areas are nacelle and tower electrical systems, wiring and cables.
- Collaborate with other Nordex engineers (Chicago and Germany) on project and product specific issues.
- Trouble shooting electrical problems as identified by field personnel.
- Investigate component and equipment failures as necessary.
- Perform RCA (Root Cause Analysis), and produce RCA reports.
- Interface with customers, providing them technical reports and details. Localization of wind turbine components with US suppliers for Nordex' US production facilities.
- Respond quickly to inquiries from field personnel.
- Disseminate knowledge of turbine systems, controls and operation to field technicians.
- Take initiative in problem resolution.
- Comply with Nordex safe work practices and procedures.
- Frequent reporting of activities and findings to superiors.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree in electrical engineering or power systems from a program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
- Knowledge and experience with three-phase low-voltage electrical power systems.
- Knowledge and familiarity with the National Electrical Code, UL and IEEE standards.
- Experience with control systems, power conversion, motors, electrical panels and wiring.
- Experience in a field engineering position preferred.
- Must be comfortable performing technical work on projects in the office and in the field.
- Strong verbal communications skills.
- Clear and concise technical report writing and presentation skills.
- Experienced with using computers and Microsoft software (Office, etc.)
- Good command of English as primary language.
- Proven self-starter abilities.
- Ability and willingness to travel frequently (25% typical).
- Ability to work at heights (80m+) and in cramped, enclosed environment.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs, stand for long periods and endure difficult weather conditions.
