Program Description:

The Rainy River First Nations will be hiring a new
Watershed Program Coordinator for its office in Emo,
Ontario.

The Watershed Program aims to protect, conserve, and
revitalize the Rainy River Watershed. Its three main goals
are to:
(1) Increase public awareness and involvement,
(2) Monitor and inventory potential impacts, and
(3) Rehabilitate areas of concern.  

The Rainy River Watershed Program is a cooperative effort with other
partners, including but not limited to private landowners,
government agencies, and educational institutions. 
As we meet our objectives, we facilitate bi-national
and intra-organizational cooperation.

Position Description:

The Coordinator is answerable for the overall management
and successful implementation of the Rainy River
Watershed Program for the benefit of Rainy River First
Nations and the surrounding communities. The Watershed
Coordinator is responsible for all administrative, financial
and personnel-related activities of the program, as well as
for the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of all
projects and programs. The Watershed Coordinator forges
and manages sustainable partnerships, acts as the primary
liaison with various partners, participates in or leads
numerous international committees, and is required to
coordinate and attend multi-stakeholder meetings on a
regular basis. The Coordinator is also responsible for
working closely with Rainy River First Nations and
keeping the community informed of and engaged in its
activities. The Coordinator also handles public/media
relations, and promotes the Rainy River Watershed
Program at local and international fora to share ideas
and learn from the experiences of others.

Education, Knowledge and Experience: 

An advanced university degree with a science or arts
specialization in one or more fields such as biology,
environmental science, ecology, environmental and/or
Native studies.
At least four years experience developing and managing
projects/programs related to environmental sciences,
ecology or biology, preferably in Aboriginal communities.
Experience with resource mobilization (fundraising)
Knowledge of principles and practices for implementing
community based environmental management programs.
Knowledge of the Rainy River First Nations and of
Aboriginal cultures in general, as well as of key
environmental issues affecting First Nations in Ontario.
Knowledge of federal and provincial environmental and
resource development programs in northern Ontario.
Knowledge of federal and provincial (Ontario)
environmental legislation and case law affecting
Aboriginal environmental and resource management.

Salary:  Commensurate with qualifications

Location: Emo, Ontario [west of Thunder Bay - ed]
