The U.S. Green Building Council, a Washington, DC-based national nonprofit organization of over 11,000 corporate and organizational members from every sector of the building industry united to transform the building marketplace to sustainability, is currently seeking a mission-oriented entrepreneur to serve as USGBC's business leader in the residential arena with the goal, in concert with USGBC's organizational values and mission, to work collaboratively towards the market transformation of the residential building industry.

The VP of Residential Market Development will be accountable for business strategy, planning, management, and growth of USGBC's LEED for Homes rating system and related programs. The VP, Residential Market Development will be responsible for assuring that the needs of the residential market are appropriately served by all USGBC program areas through close collaboration and alignment with other USGBC teams and programs.

The position is not directly responsible for the ongoing technical development of LEED, nor of the associated certification process.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

  • Prepare annual and long-range LEED for Homes budget and program plans in collaboration with the USGBC Executive Management Team and appropriate volunteer committees.
  • Build the residential market development staff team.
  • Develop the delivery network for LEED for Homes in local marketplaces throughout the United States.
  • Establish and foster relationships with local and national homebuilding organizations and other residential building industry stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with USGBC's Education, Research, Greenbuild, Marketing and Communications, Advocacy, Membership, Chapter and Operations teams to assure that services and support of the residential marketplace is integrated into all USGBC program areas.
  • Identify, develop, and maintain relationships with key partners.
  • Oversee procurement, contractors, and vendors
  • Serve as a liaison to the LEED for Homes Core Committee and LEED for Homes Providers.
  • Support planning and delivery of resources, services and training to support the market transformation of the residential building industry.
  • Prepare program and financial progress reports.
  • Serve as an expert spokesperson.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years in business management with demonstrated abilities to manage rapid growth, a high degree of complexity, multi-stakeholder processes, and a staff team.
  • Entrepreneurial experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of homebuilding, development, and sustainable building practices.
  • An MBA or equivalent is preferred.
  • Ability to lead, manage, and adapt to change in a rapidly evolving marketplace.
  • Demonstrated team-based approach to getting the job done.
  • Committed to USGBC's mission of sustainability.
  • Strong presence and personal integrity.
  • Self-motivated; detail-oriented; well organized; willing take thoughtful risks.
  • Effective negotiation skills.
  • Superior oral and written communications capabilities; particularly with regard to working with committees, teams, colleagues and staff.
