Nestled in a beautiful valley in the western Southern Tier of New York State, Alfred State College has a long tradition of attracting the finest faculty and staff and offers outstanding educational opportunities in more than 70 programs.

Alfred State College, a member of the State University of New Yorks (SUNY) technology sector, finds itself at an exciting time in its 102-year history. Not only does the College continue to lead the pack in technology and sustainability, but it also continues to transform itself into a baccalaureate institution, offering 52 Associates degrees, 19 Bachelors degrees, and three certificate programs. The College enrolls approximately 3,700 students and has residential facilities for more than 2,500 students.

The Alfred State campus consists of 260 acres with academic and residential buildings, an 800-acre working College farm, the Wellsville campus which houses the School of Applied Technology, and the beautiful Alfred State Lake Lodge, a recreational complex.

Alfred, a scenic village in Allegany County, is surrounded by lakes, ponds, wetlands, and state parks. The community boasts a permanent population of about 2,000 residents and nearly 6,000 students enrolled in three colleges.

Alfred State Colleges Institute for Sustainability (which encompasses the Center for Organic and Sustainable Agriculture and the Center for Renewable Energy) is taking the lead in this agrarian county to help small farmers farm more sustainably and profitably, modeling both traditional and organic methods in crop production and livestock.

Students enrolled in construction-related curriculums are building a green home to federal Energy Star and National Association of Home Builders standards on the Wellsville campus, which will serve as a showcase and instructional model, with support from Appalachian Regional Commission. Faculty and students in the electrical construction and maintenance electrician program have traveled to Washington, D.C., where they have worked with the U.S. National Arboretum to install photovoltaic arrays to bring power to remote portions of the Arboretum campus.

For the fourth consecutive year, ASC appeared on the U.S. News and World ReportBest Colleges listing: 27th among the top regional colleges in the North, 8th among the top public schools (regional colleges in the North), and was included in the rankings of those colleges with the highest average freshman retention rate, coming in at 66.5 percent.
