Description
Organized in 1977, Boston Natural Areas Network works to preserve, expand and improve urban open space through community organizing, acquisition, ownership, programming development and management of special kinds of urban land - Urban Wilds, Greenways and Community gardens. In all its work, BNAN is guided by local citizens advocating for their open spaces and assisting them to preserve and shape their communities. This position reports directly to the President.
Responsibilities
Grant Writing
- Manage the administration of existing grants and write grants with existing funders
- Manage consultant fundraiser/grantwriter(s)
- Identify new grant opportunities
- Work with staff to write grant proposals
- Develop and maintain system for managing grants and reporting on grant status
- Keep leadership current on grant status
Special Projects and New Initiatives
- Take on special projects as directed by the President
- Work with staff, Board and volunteers to implement special projects and develop new initiatives
- Oversee the initiative of Urban Wilds E-Report including work-planning, hiring and managing consultants, use of technology, final report preparation, etc.
Advocacy Support
- Work with the President to address advocacy needs
- Work with President to develop the annual advocacy agenda
- Attend meetings, develop strategy and otherwise advocate for BNAN Technology
- Hire and manage technology consultants/professionals as appropriate
- With consultants, update an overall technology plan for BNAN
- Ensure that technology is integrated across BNAN and enables productivity and connections
Public Relations
- Working with President and consultants, develop overall PR plan for BNAN
- Assist with writing distribute organizational communications (newsletter, etc.)
Other
- Hire and manage staff as appropriate
- Work with President to involve the Board in the organization's work
Minimum Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree is preferred
- Grant writing, non-profit development and/or management experience required
- Solid computer skills
- Entrepreneurial attitude is a bonus

- High energy, goal oriented self starter with ability to prioritize and see project through to completion
- Ability to be flexible and work in non-traditional, multi-racial and multi-cultural environment
- Sense of humor
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends
Compensation
Salary: $46,000 - $52,000 (based on experience) plus benefits. BNAN is an equal opportunity employer
