The Texas Forest Service is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill the postion of Urban Wildland Interface Specialist.
Responsibilities:
The position is assigned to mitigation and prevention programs that include Community Wildfire Protection Plans, Firewise Communities, completing UWI Risk Assessments, addressing fire ecology and fuel management/reduction issues. Deliver programs to volunteer and career fire departments regarding firefighter safety, tactics, apparatus and PPE in the UWI environment.
Coordinate with municipal, county and federal agencies relating to UWI programs and provide proactive wildfire educational technical assistance to community based wildfire prevention programs. During large scale wildfire outbreaks will be engaged in mitigation, prevention and emergency response efforts. FRP media contact for the greater Houston area.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Forestry, or Fire Management, or Range Science or closely related field.
Work Experience:
Entry level position. Requires excellent interpersonal skills with a wide variety of people. Must have excellent oral and written skills; working knowledge of computers and technology used in the Texas Forest Service. Ability to work independently and be self directed towards assigned work; develop and maintain relationships with various cooperators, stakeholders and the general public.
Compensation: Salary $32,000
Start Date: July 1, 2009
