Description

Solar One, a New York City non-profit green energy, education, and arts center, seeks a qualified candidate for the position of Tenant Education Program Coordinator. The Coordinator will oversee and implement the day-to-day operations of the Solar One Tenant Education Program (STEP). STEP engages residents of low-income rental buildings that are undergoing energy efficiency retrofits and provides targeted energy and environmental education and training, as well as support for building green committees.

Responsibilities:

Among other duties, the Coordinator will:

  • Develop new materials and activities for building tenant education and training, including power point presentations, printed material, and program website.
  • Communicate and coordinate with program clients, which include weatherization entities, community development corporations, property owners, government agencies, and others, to schedule and facilitate the delivery of education activities for residents of buildings.
  • Research and identify neighborhood green resources and partners to incorporate into tenant education content.
  • Conduct outreach to building residents to increase participation in the program.
  • Deliver presentations, trainings, and other tenant education activities in participating buildings.
  • Work with building staff and tenants to establish green committees in particular buildings, and support them in building greening efforts.
  • Develop partnerships and new opportunities to grow the program.
  • Document, evaluate, and report on above activities.
  • Supervise assistant(s), as needed, depending on the program workload.

Qualifications:

  • 3 or more years of work experience in community outreach, organizing, education, or work in similar areas. Experience building partnerships and interacting with community members.
  • Experience/interest in the fields of energy efficiency, urban environmental sustainability, and/or public health is desirable.
  • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Experience creating outreach materials, planning events, tracking project progress, and writing reports.
  • Experience working with low income residents and clients with diverse backgrounds.
  • Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends, as required.
  • Spanish language fluency is desirable.
  • Valid driver's license and comfort driving in New York City (vehicle not required).
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Powerpoint) and internet communications.
