Position Overview

The Partners Section of the Wildlife Division is primarily responsible for habitat development and restoration efforts, and access programs on privately owned lands.

Responsibilities

  • Under general direction of Wildlife Biologists and District Manager, conduct activities related to the Open Fields and Waters Program, Focus on Pheasants Program, the Stubble Grant, and other habitat and access programs as needed.
  • Primary activities include site assessment, contract writing, posting of signs, communication with landowners, etc.
  • Secondary activities may include providing limited technical assistance of wildlife habitat enhancement techniques to private landowners, conducting wildlife surveys, assisting other sections/divisions and/or conservation agencies, vehicle/ATV maintenance, and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • 15 semester hours or the equivalent of post high school coursework/training in wildlife or fisheries management, natural resources and/or biology and 12 months experience in wildlife, recreation or fisheries management.
  • Valid driver's license or ability to provide independent authorized transportation for travel to and from field locations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of local agricultural practices/land use as well as basic wildlife habitat management principles, goals and objectives.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, work with little supervision and with diverse clientele.
  • Computer skills (Excel, Access, GIS) highly desirable.
