Technical Writer/Graphics Producer/Jr. Environmental Planner

Blue Earth Ecological Consultants, Inc. is a small, woman-owned environmental consulting firm located in Santa Fe, New Mexico. We are searching for a employee to assist us with a myriad of tasks focused primarily around assisting our senior planner with preparing environmental impact assessments pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and with implementing public participation activities during project development.

Responsibilities
Drafting sections of NEPA documents, editing NEPA documents and other technical reports prepared by others (e.g. biological, social, cultural resources), arranging public and agency meetings, preparing public participation materials (e.g. meeting handouts, displays, and electronic presentations, newsletters, web page updates), preparing meeting summaries, and a variety of miscellaneous activities.

Education and Experience Requirements
Minimum of a bachelor?s degree with at least six months work experience similar to duties described in "Responsibilities". (Will accept combined summer work experience, internships, etc.)

Knowledge and Skills Required
Excellent writing and oral communication skills are essential. Software proficiency in: 1) Word and Word Perfect for report writing and production and ability to convert reports from one program to the other; 2) Page Maker or similar desktop publisher program to develop project newsletters, news releases, etc.; 3) web page creation and maintenance programs ; 4) database management (e.g. Access, dBase); 5) presentation software (e.g. MS Power Point or Corel Presentation); 6) Corel Draw or other graphics programs. Familiarity with natural resources and social environment terminology and issues related to planning and analyzing impacts from federal-nexus projects. Understanding of the NEPA process and familiarity with western U.S. issues is desirable. Must be very organized, thorough, self-motivated and have a good work ethic.

Successful candidate will be creative and energetic in their approach to work. He or she must be personable and neat in appearance for public interactions. Must be adaptable to changing work priorities and schedules. She or he will value learning opportunities and be motivated to develop education and/or rudimentary experience in a specific natural resource or social science field into skill that can be utilized in NEPA analyses. Any other skills that could assist a small business such as ours in which we all must wear many hats will be a plus (e.g. computer network management, GIS, drafting/CADD) .

Salary Range
$26,000 to $35,000 starting salary, depending on experience and education. Full-time salaried position with benefits package including paid holidays, vacation, sick leave, health insurance, and retirement program.
