ABC's environmental arm focuses on businesses in the commercial real estate sector that have an impact on, and are affected by rising greenhouse gas emissions.
ABC works with these businesses to mitigate climate change through sustainability actions as well as aiding in adapting to the effects of climate change such as extreme weather events.
Position Overview
ABC is looking for an internship candidate to conduct research on building design and technologies on climate change resiliency. This candidate will work on researching the latest building technologies and incentives in the City of Boston, as well as policies surrounding energy efficiency and sustainability.
This candidate will work with Challenge for Sustainability staff to gather information on businesses currently implementing such technologies and incentives. Research will also focus on implementable actions and will work with staff to promote within Boston's commercial real estate community.
The Technical Research Intern position runs from June 2 - August 29, 2914.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research on most up-to-date technologies and incentive programs throughout all aspects of sustainability (energy, waste, water, transportation, behavior) to update ABC's ‘sustainability toolkit.'
- Audit existing state of participating facilities and equipment to create participant catalog.
- Compile an alignment of Challenge for Sustainability scorecard items with corresponding credits for LEED v4.
- Work with Challenge for Sustainability staff to present findings to participating facilities.
- Gather best practices on current and potential bulk purchasing programs around mechanical equipment, lighting, healthy building materials.

- Organized and detail-orientated
- Familiarity with green building techniques
- Basic understanding of climate change science
- Intermediate Microsoft office knowledge
Desired Skills & Traits:
- Dreamweaver or website editing
- Knowledge of USGBC's LEED rating system
- Familiarity with local energy incentives and new technologies
