Description
The clay-brick company's sustainable mission is as follows:
* delivering building materials processed from local clay, as a substitute for imported cement bricks
* using vegetable wastes (millet husks) and undesirable bush species, for fuel
* alleviating housing needs by speeding up delivery of low cost and middle income housing in the densely populated regions
* developing human resources through on-the-job-training (clay brick industry does not exist in the Northern half of Namibia)
* creating jobs in an area with high unemployment rate
* increasing the revenue base of the region by exporting the products to neighbouring countries, and substituting imported basic construction materials
Either an experienced Technical Manager, for a 1-year assignment, with roll-over option - Or a partner ceramics firm to provide Technical Assistance, on a 1-year basis, with roll-over option.
The Technical Manager/Expert should be proficient in English and very experienced.
His/her role would be notably as follows:
* Serving as the interface between the Namibian company and the manufacturer/installer of the brick-making machinery during the assembly, starting-up and subsequent phases.
* Reviewing the design of plant, in case he is enough skilled and experienced to do so.
* Attending the construction and start-up, on behalf of the Namibian promoter.
* Being the internal coordinator and manager for all technical aspects of the project.
* Acquiring technological knowledge from the manufacturer/installer for subsequent transfer to local staff.
* Once the plant has started, managing the manufacturing processes, analysing clay samples as may be necessary, maintaining equipment, training and managing technical staff.
Main features of the clay-brick factory are: Low medium-sized capacity: 22,500 mt of fired products per year
Types of products: Facing, Common, Hollow and Paving Bricks
Technology: Vacuum extrusion (to form and shape the products), drying in open air and firing in a Hoffman Kiln (under controlled temperature).
