Description

Camp Hamilton is a 570 acre wilderness camp which includes an 80 acre lake and adjoining ponds. Two 1,400 foot Cascade foothills border the lake protecting this unique wilderness area.

The curriculum focuses on forest, wetland, wildlife, and human ecology. Each area of study strives to provide each student an understanding of ecological principles as well as build a sense of responsibility and an awareness of how individual and community choices impact our environment

At Camp Hamilton we serve 6th grade students from Catholic schools in a four day residential program. There is a magic about a camping experience that defies definition. Regardless of your eventual life work, the dynamics of this very personal relationship to children and peers in a beautiful natural setting will have tremendous value for you always.

Duties:
During the day, students are in Exploration Groups of 10 15 students with a Teacher-Naturalist. While in the field, students take part in hands-on, interdisciplinary, experiential learning of the natural environment.

Students also will have the opportunity to canoe our lake and scale the climbing wall. Evening programs are varied and include campfires, a night hike, and skit night.

Teacher-Naturalists and interns live and work together in staff housing at Camp Hamilton.

Staff members help out with the behind the scenes work that keeps camp running smoothly such as kitchen duties, cleaning, special projects, and other maintenance.

The Environmental Education program is in operation for 12 weeks this spring with the week of April 13th as a week off due to the Easter holiday. There is the possibility of continuing on at Camp Hamilton (or at one of our other summer camps) for the summer season.

Essential Functions

  • Ability to communicate and train staff in safety regulations and emergency procedures.
