Position Overview

This individual will be responsible for maintaining The Coca-Cola Company's Sustainable Packaging policies and developing management tools for helping our global business system comply.

The candidate will work closely with our Global Packaging Platform team to assess the environmental performance our packaging worldwide and benchmark our progress against long-term goals. The role will also include serving as a technical consultant on sustainable packaging issues within individual customer and brand marketing teams.

The individual for this job will have a strong understanding of package and/or product sustainability issues with a proven ability to translate these concepts into action. Effective communication skills and the ability to build strong working relationships with other business units are essential requirements for this position. 

Function Specific Activities 

  • Monitor external environment and develop/initiate changes in Company policies and strategies in response to new sustainable packaging risks or opportunities.         
  • Act as a key point of contact and liaison between parties to exchange information and respond to inquiries. This includes receiving and directing inquiries and acting as a facilitator for interactions between Corporate, various departments (e.g., Procurement, Packaging, Marketing), business units, field and suppliers.         
  • Act as a technical expert and consultant by responding to targeted questions from the field and other departments/business units and providing support to bottlers and customers. This includes acting as a resource for general information and acting as a consultant for other technical personnel in the Company.         
  • Provide information to Public Affairs and Communications for use in responding to consumer inquiries and for internal and external communication documents.         
  • Capture information, assess it and make recommendations to the Company management (e.g., senior technical management) or give the KO system information about emerging business opportunities, technology capabilities or scientific breakthroughs to offer solutions to technical problems and/or affect the Company's strategic direction.         
  • Explore and assess potential relationships with R&D partners (e.g., other companies, cross-divisional partners, academia, joint ventures) for the purpose of sharing investment/risk, creating research agendas, or enhancing business through new brands, technologies and processes.         
  • Participate in or provide expertise to external organizations/committees/boards such as trade, scientific or industry groups to represent Company or customers and influence outcomes.

Education: Bachelor's Degree

Technical Skills 

  • Basic Packaging: Basic knowledge of packaging materials and the related production processes. This includes knowledge of material compatibility, supplier processes, standards and specification.         
  • Building Technical Relationships: Ability to apply technical knowledge and establish credibility with highly technical audiences in order to build technical relationships that will benefit customers or the Company.         
  • Environmental Management System Design: Ability to design, develop and implement effective environmental management systems. This includes the ability to coach associates on how to effectively assess environmental management system designs and deployment.         
  • Environmental Management Systems: Knowledge of and ability to assess the effectiveness of environmental management systems. Includes the ability to coach or educate others on effective system implementation.         
  • Environmental and Health & Safety Regulations: Basic knowledge of packaging environmental and human health regulations and how to access additional resources (e.g., regulatory agencies, consulting firms, web-based information).         
  • Environmental Technologies: Ability to understand and apply new environmental technologies for beverage packaging materials.         
  • Technical Communication to Non-Technical Audience: Ability to break down or modify complex technical information as needed to communicate it orally or in writing to non-technical Company staff (e.g., senior managers, customers or consumers). This includes the ability to use analogies/metaphors understood by the target audience to reinforce points. It also includes the ability to accurately read the audience's level of understanding and adjust the message/presentation to deliver it at the appropriate level         
  • Technical/Scientific Writing: Ability to interpret, synthesize and organize data or technical information to produce a detailed and logical written account of procedures, results and recommendations that is concise, readable, clear/lucid and understandable by technical and non-technical audiences
