Position Overview
WRI's Finance Center is seeking a research analyst to support our research and convening activities on sustainable finance. WRI's Finance Center focuses on shifting public and private capital toward low carbon and climate-resilient development and away from activities that harm people and the environment. We achieve this vision by focusing our work around two main areas:
1. Greening critical global and developing country financial institutions
2. Scaling financial solutions for sustainable development.
We engage governments, development finance institutions, private sector actors, and civil society to achieve our vision.
The analyst will provide research, analysis, and convening support aimed at shifting financial flows to support sustainable development. The analyst will support both pillars of our strategy, working on both institutions and financial solutions; s/he will contribute to these efforts both within the Finance Center and also in collaboration with other WRI programs and centers.
Responsibilities
The Research Analyst's main areas of responsibility will include the following:
Research & Knowledge (70% of time required)
- Assisting other researchers with literature reviews and qualitative or quantitative analysis
- Co-authoring knowledge products (e.g. reports, briefs, data products)
- Contributing to research proposals
- Presenting at internal/external meetings
- Co-authoring blog posts and other communication documents
- Reviewing 1 knowledge product written by other WRI researchers yearly
- Administrative (30% of time required)
- Organizing internal and external meetings, workshops, conferences and other dissemination activities.
- Liaising with external partners and WRI colleagues across programs and countries
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in one of the following areas or similar: finance (international, environmental, development or sustainable focused preferred) economics, environmental management, international affairs, international relations or international/sustainable development)
- Minimum 2-3 years of relevant full time work experience in environmental, sustainable, development, climate or international finance or closely related field
- Familiarity with international climate and/or sustainable development finance actors and issues
- A successful candidate will demonstrate excellent qualitative and/or quantitative research and writing skills
- Demonstrated involvement in sustainability or development issues in a professional or extracurricular capacity
- Prior experience in analyzing and writing research products
- Excellent quantitative and qualitative analytical skills
- Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office and internet research
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with teams of individuals and colleagues
- Flexibility to travel
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a related field
- Foreign language skills: Spanish, Portuguese or French preferred
- Professional experience of extensive time spent in developing countries
- Experience working in a public or private sector financial institution
Note: Final candidates will be required to take a writing/analytical test.
