Sustainable Buildings and Operations Project Manager

Position Overview: 

The Sustainable Buildings Project Manager is responsible for managing Sustainable Buildings & Operations (SB&O) projects (accurately, on time and on budget) for a variety of clients. This experience primarily focuses on, but is not limited to, the following areas:  LEED Services, ENERGY STAR Services, Green Building Design, Sustainable Operations, and Building Performance Improvement, including Energy Efficiency Analysis. This position requires a working knowledge of the strategies listed below:

Building Benchmarking and Improvement:

The position will require accurate benchmarking of building performance across a variety of metrics (e.g., energy, water, waste, etc.) to establish a baseline upon which metrics can be improved.  Development and tracking of sustainability policies, programs and operations will be critical in achieving target sustainability improvements. Targets may be measured with a variety of tools including ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager and LEED Online. Key competencies for these tasks include:

• An understanding of the triple bottom line and how to apply it in actual building practices
• Attention to detail and an in-depth knowledge of building and/or engineering sciences
• Excellent interpersonal and communications skills to interact with clients

Green Building Design:

The position will require assistance in the evaluation, design and implementation of various green building systems, including:

• Building envelope
• Building energy consuming systems (e.g., HVAC, lighting, etc.)
• Renewables, including solar and wind systems
• Rainwater collection systems

Typically, green building design services will require deep interaction with the project team including charrette and integrated design meetings, development of construction drawings and specifications, and construction coordination. Many projects will also pursue a third-party certification such as USGBC's LEED Rating System.

Responsibilities:   

• LEED & ENERGY STAR Analysis, Feasibility, Documentation, and Certification - Utilize Excel, ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager and LEED Online to document building performance improvement
• Green Building Design/Building Performance Improvement Services - Evaluating efficiency of building operations and energy efficiency (HVAC, Renewable Energy Systems, Stormwater Management, Sustainable Materials, and Water Efficiency)
• Perform ASHRAE Level I Energy Audits at a variety of facility types
• Conduct Energy Modeling
• Develop schematics for green building design projects using AutoCAD
• Apply programs and policies to specific buildings resulting in improved building performance
• Present results to clients in person and/or in written reports
• Interact with building materials and products manufacturers to obtain product data
• Research and apply for grants, incentives and rebates that are relevant to project
• Communicate with owners, architects and subcontractors to support project goals
• Develop client relationships, ensure quality and customer satisfaction
• Ensure that projects are managed and completed accurately, on time, and on budget
• Assist in training interns

Qualifications:

Candidate Profile:

The successful candidate is passionate about sustainable building, as well as the business case for sustainability. This position requires the ability to be flexible, using your project management experience to manage many projects simultaneously. This candidate has excellent people skills and enjoys developing relationships with our clients. Must be able to work collaboratively with others and communicate clearly with peers and subcontractors to meet project commitments. The successful candidate is proactive, well organized, and enjoys working in a team atmosphere. Taking initiative, follow-through, persistence and a strong research capability are key components to this position.

Qualifications:   

• Minimum of B.S. Degree in Architecture, Engineering or Construction Science
• Deep knowledge of principles of sustainable development and Green Building Standards
• Working knowledge of LEED and ENERGYSTAR certification
• Competency in AutoCAD
• Aptitude for intelligence gathering, research analysis and problem solving
• Data management experience;  ability to collect, manage and analyze data from clients
• Excellent customer service skills:  meet clients' needs, resolve issues, keep clients informed  and satisfied
• Demonstrated experience in project management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize numerous tasks effectively
• Excellent written, verbal and presentation communication skills, and the ability to interface with clients at all organizational levels
