Job Summary

The Sustainability Program Coordinator position’s primary responsibility is for the development and coordination of Lake County’s sustainability program.  As part of the County’s overall strategic plan, Lake County is committed to making great strides in enhancing and promoting a sustainable environment.  This position will work to further the cause and lead the charge on all current strategies, in addition to the further development of a Lake County sustainability program with cutting edge, innovative goals and strategies.

Responsibilities

With this exciting position you will also have the opportunities to:

  • Lead the development of a sustainability program that reduces the County’s impact on the environment with strategies that apply green solutions, implements renewable energy technologies and incorporates best management environmental practices in the delivery of County programs and services.
  • Lead the implementation efforts of a number of ongoing initiatives already established through the direction and work of Lake County’s Energy & Environment Committee. This includes the establishment of the Commercial PACE (Property Assessed Clean Energy) program in Lake County, installation of solar power at a number of County and municipal sites through a recently adopted Power Purchase Agreement, establishment of Net Zero Emissions Policies, and shifting the County’s fleet to a more energy efficient model.
  • Work closely with county policy makers, departments, local agencies, and the public at large to research and strategize innovative ideas and solutions, collaborate on county wide projects, develop educational opportunities for employees, act as a resource to departments to research and develop sustainable practices, research and draft policies for consideration, provide training to departments, and promote sustainability-focused events.
  • Track the progress of sustainability programs through the development of metrics to measure progress and success in achieving the sustainability goals.
  • In partnership with the County Administrator’s Office, support and manage the Energy & Environment Committee’s workplan, innovative ideas, and ongoing initiatives.

Qualifications

  • A background in environmental science or sustainability.
  • In order to be successful in this role you should have a bachelor’s degree in a related field and a minimum of 5 years of directly related experience. 
  • Individuals should have a working knowledge of sustainability concepts and best practices; possess the ability to effectively problem solve and have the ability to work both individually and in a team atmosphere.

Compensation

  • $76,000 – $84,000 Annual Salary.
