Position Overview

Thornton Tomasetti is seeking a Sustainability Consultant to primarily work on LEED for Existing Buildings in the San Francisco office.

The candidate is extremely well organized project manager, possessing the ability to coordinate consulting on multiple projects and manage multiple stakeholders to achieve desired results. Candidates must be technically proficient in green building strategies, knowledgeable in MEP building systems, and ongoing building O&M practices.

This Sustainability Consultant has excellent client relationship management skills, and understands how to engage internal and external teams to achieve desired results. Candidates must be highly analytical, detail oriented, with the ability to understand and articulate how details fit together in the big picture. The ideal candidate will also have excellent oral and written communication skills and enjoy working with diverse project teams and building owners.


Responsibilities
 

As a Project Director, the job responsibilities include: 

  • Sustainable design, construction, and operations & maintenance consultation
  • LEED consulting, with an emphasis in LEED for Existing Buildings
  • Research green building technologies and materials
  • Review specifications and drawings
  • Maintain high quality client relationships
  • Facilitate and participate in client and team meetings, set agendas, and issue meeting minutes and action items
  • Communicate and coordinate with clients and consultants (e.g., architects, engineers, and facility managers) to ensure a clear understanding of project goals and expectations
  • Conduct on-site verifications to confirm compliance with sustainability goals
  • Monitor financial health of project
  • Assist with budget development, management, tracking, reporting and adjustment as necessary
  • Assist in writing proposals and business development opportunities
  • Prepare presentations and other learning content as assigned
  • Develop relationships with peers to identify business development opportunities
  • Support senior level staff on projects
  • Promote TT's services and reputation in the local and/or national markets by participating in appropriate industry, professional and community organizations
  • Work with the marketing and business development teams to track and follow leads and opportunities associated with your clients 

Qualifications  

  • Background in building science, or architectural, engineering, construction fields
  • 3+ years experience in sustainability consulting
  • At a minimum, a Bachelor's degree and a LEED Green Associate credential or LEED Accredited Professional or ability to obtain credential within six months of employment
  • Experience with third party certifications, such as LEED, WELL, Living Building Challenge
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal codes
  • Capable of supporting a project from concept phase through construction
  • Passion for sustainability
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong communication and problem solving skills
  • Ability to travel, both domestic and internationally
  • Strong technical knowledge in the construction field and its related documents
  • Solidly computer literate and able/willing to work in a PC office
  • Open to learning new things and excited to share knowledge with others
