Position Overview:
Coordinate and implement rain garden demonstration workshops (25%); create and deliver outreach and education to Clark County residents about rain gardens (10%); create and design online interactive map and promotional literature of rural acreage properties with exemplary water quality protection practices (25%); coordinate and implement a realtor outreach program (20%); Design and carry out natural resources outreach plan for Watershed Stewards and Small Acreage programs at public events (15%); assistance with other education activities (5%).
Transportation Information:
- Personal vehicle is required for this position and offers are contingent on your driving record and personal vehicle insurance coverage meeting the minimum requirements detailed at the end of position description.
- Organizational vehicle is available for some service activities.
- Project site is accessible by public transportation.

Responsibilities:
(to include, but not limited to):
- Serve with WSU Extension staff to create a work plan, timeline, and outline scope of projects.
- Design, plan, and promote outreach workshops.
- Create promotional literature.
- Recruit and train volunteers to assist with program implementation.
- Use online tools and software to generate interactive program materials.
- Identify and develop an outreach base from identified target audiences.
- Coordinate construction of demonstration garden and outreach displays.
- Track and report on program contacts and outcomes.
- Provide community outreach and present to a wide variety of audiences.
- Complete a Community Action Project that is identified by the Intern, researched, and implemented during the term of service.
- Attend and complete all NWSA/AmeriCorps training and service requirements including orientation, trainings, team meetings and national service days.
- Complete and submit all necessary NWSA/AmeriCorps paperwork and reports in a timely manner.
- Wear an NWSA uniform and/or appropriate identifiers and required safety gear while performing service or attending official events.
Qualifications:
- Must have a valid driver's license, clean driving record and ability to provide documentation.
- Attend a mandatory orientation in Trout Lake, WA from 2/7 to 2/11, quarterly Intern trainings in Trout Lake, WA (food and lodging provided for orientation and trainings), and monthly Intern meetings. Intern is responsible for transportation to and from all mandatory trainings and meetings, which may be up to several hours away from their project site.
- Personal vehicle is required for service activities and mileage reimbursement is approved.
- Communicate and interact in a positive, professional manner with various groups such as project partners, colleagues, community volunteers, realtors, landscape professionals, and the general public.
- Have a flexible schedule to serve occasional evenings and weekends.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills; ability to work on a team and independently.
- A willingness to ask questions for clarification and job completion.
- Familiarity with MS Office Suite, online tools, and other computer programs (or willingness to learn).

- Ability and willingness to work outside, walk on uneven terrain, and occasionally in inclement weather, and lift up to 30 lbs. occasionally.
- 21 years of age or older, at beginning of service term.
- U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident.
- Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent, or commit to earning one prior to receiving an education award.
- Ability to commit to the full term of service for which they are applying.
- Selection, placement and retention are contingent upon passing the National Sex Offender Public Register and a national FBI fingerprint check.
- Regular and reliable attendance.
- Members are eligible to serve up to 4 terms of service and receive AmeriCorps Education awards for each term of service up to the value of 2 full time education awards only. It is the responsibility of the applicant to inform NWSA of any previous service in an AmeriCorps program, regardless of whether or not they completed the previous term(s) of service. NWSA is not liable for providing an Education Award to a member if they are not eligible under the Corporation for National and Community Service AmeriCorps guidelines.
Qualifications:
- Experience with graphic design and layout design software.
- Interest in water quality, natural resources, and environmental education and outreach.
- Interest in working with and sharing environmental information with volunteers, community members, and the general public.
- Previous experience with public speaking and outreach.
Compensation: A total taxable living allowance of $11,800. Upon successful completion of a term of service, eligible members/leaders receive an education award of $5,350. The education award can be used to repay qualified student loans, for further education in an accredited institution of higher learning, vocational or trade schools. The education award is taxed in the year that it is used. Loan forbearance (after successful completion of a term of service, AmeriCorps will pay the accrued interest on qualified loans, which is taxable). Basic medical insurance (covers members only, not dependents; vision and dental not included). Child care allowance for those who qualify.
