Duties:
As the Stock Assessment Specialist, the incumbent is responsible for developing, coordinating, and/or maintaining stock assessment programs for the Commission and its member states. This position will work closely with the Interstate Fisheries Management Program's species technical committees and stock assessment subcommittees in compilation, analysis, and dissemination of technical information for development of Commission fishery management plans and amendments.
The incumbent will also assist in the coordination of the Commission's assessment priorities, schedule, and standard benchmark stock assessment protocols through the Stock Assessment Committee, and completing other assessment activities such as multispecies assessment modeling. The position of the Stock Assessment Specialist is funded through the Atlantic Coastal Fisheries Cooperative Management Act federal financial assistance. This position is based out of the Commission's Washington, DC office and may require frequent overnight travel, primarily along the Atlantic Coast. The incumbent reports to the Commission's Science Director.
Qualifications:
Applicants must have a graduate degree in fisheries science, population dynamics, marine biology, or a related field. Knowledge of fisheries stock assessment methods, interdisciplinary preparation for fisheries management, proven writing and speaking skills, communication, coordination and interpersonal skills, and experience with quantitative analysis software should be demonstrated. The salary for this position will be established, within the range listed above, based on the experience and background of the applicant.
Salary Range: $40,000 - $50,000
