The Michigan Nature Association (MNA) was established in 1952 as Michigan's first land conservancy group.  MNA protects over 9,000 acres in 57 counties on 166 nature sanctuaries. 

Position Overview: 

The Michigan Nature Association, a statewide land conservation organization headquartered in Williamston, Michigan, is seeking exceptional candidates for our Stewardship Coordinator position.  The Stewardship Coordinator will work with the Operations Director and Stewardship staff to maintain MNA sanctuaries and plant preserves and for operations designed to protect and maintain the sanctuaries and plant preserves.

The Stewardship Coordinator works with stewardship staff to manage MNA's sanctuaries and stewardship program. The Stewardship Coordinator's duties include working with Regional Stewardship Representative, applying for management grants, tracking the stewardship and grant budgets, producing reports and updates for grants, developing and implementing management plans, overseeing contractors and Stewardship Interns, working with Land Protection Specialist and Land Protection Technician, communicating and working with MNA Officers and Board, related document and information management.

Responsibilities:

  • Protect and manage the sanctuaries and plant preserves, consistent with Board policy, including:
  • o Coordinate the development of and approve management plans;
  • o Implement management plans, including sanctuary restoration, prescribed burns and control of exotic species;
  • o Coordinating monitoring of sanctuaries and rare and endangered species, including ensuring each sanctuary is regular visited by a responsible person on behalf of MNA;
  • o Research and monitoring of control methods;
  • Recruit and manage Regional Stewardship Coordinators, Field Representatives, contract workers and stewardship interns;
  • Coordinate written reports to the Board with respect to each MNA sanctuary and plant preserve, together with a prioritized plan for assessment and further work on sanctuaries during the following calendar year.
  • Attend some Board meetings to discuss sanctuary planning and stewardship needs;
  • Apply for and manage grants for sanctuary stewardship;
  • Develop and monitor compliance with the Board-approved annual budget to manage sanctuaries and complete projects;
  • Negotiate and contract with sanctuary-related vendors and suppliers;
  • Perform all other duties as needed
