Position Overview 

NMSU is currently seeking a State 4-H/Youth Agent to provide educational and technical information to county Extension faculty with 4-H and youth development responsibilities in 4-H, Ag and Natural Resources and related STEM areas.

Responsibilities 

  • Administratively responsible to the Extension 4-H Department head for programs.
  • Maintain liaison and close working relationship with state agencies dealing with Ag and Natural Resources.
  • Work cooperatively with other state Extension specialists in developing and implementing multi-discipline activities.
  • Develop curriculum as needed.
  • Coordinate livestock & horse schools, shooting sports, Kids, Kows and More program, judging schools, Ag related contests at State Conference and work with all aspects of District Contests.

Qualifications 

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Extension Education, Adult Education, Animal Science, Natural Resources or other youth development related fields.
  • Must be tenured with 6 years of county experience.
  • Basic understanding of the Cooperative Extension Service.
  • Understanding of Agriculture and Natural Resources 4-H youth development programs.
  • Ability to provide leadership in planning, organizing, directing and evaluating educational programs related to agriculture and natural resources 4-H youth development programs.
  • Ability to maintain and build volunteer involvement in all 4-H delivery modes.
  • Proven ability to maintain positive relationships, use oral and written communication skillfully and work with people of all racial-ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications (optional):

  • 1 degree in Agriculture preferred.
  • Experience in 4-H and youth development preferred.

Special Requirements of the Position:

  • State wide travel required so must have valid drivers license.
  • Willing to work evenings, weekends and travel within state and out-of-state as necessary.
