Description

Overview:

Under the direction of the Friends of the River
Conservation Director, the Campaign Director and the Statewide Outreach
Director, the Southern Sierra Regional Outreach Organizer will help build
public understanding and support for wilderness and wild river protection in
Madera, Fresno, Tulare, Kings, and Kern counties, including the Kings and
Kern Rivers and areas near Sequoia National Monument.

Duties:

  • Work with others to devise and recommend a regional plan and strategy
    coordinated with the statewide Wilderness/Wild Rivers Campaign.
  • Organize and coordinate grassroots involvement in Wilderness/Wild Rivers
    visibility/organizing activities.
  • Build political support for local wild lands and rivers by working with
    Congressional staff, local elected officials, and other important community
    members.
  • Travel to targeted media markets to educate and raise awareness of
    Wilderness/Wild Rivers issues.
  • Coordinate public education field organizing in assigned media market.
  • Work with appropriate regional staff and volunteer entities to plan and
    implement visibility events, community outreach events and to generate
    telephone calls and letters to the editor in target media market.
  • Travel to organize and coordinate training events, field meetings, visibility
    events, or other large events and conferences.
  • Work independently or with staff to carry out Campaign priorities.
  • Provide information, research, and other assistance to Campaign leaders,
    coalition partners, the public and others about the Campaign's priority issues.
  • Work with staff to identify, recruit and organize volunteers for the
    Campaign.
  • Perform administrative and clerical duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as directed.


Terms:

Full-time position is funded for two years and will be extended
depending on further funding. Periodic overtime is required to meet Campaign
deadlines. This is an exempt at-will position. The Southern Sierra Regional
Outreach Organizer will be an employee of Friends of the River, a founding
member organization of the Campaign, which administers funds for the
Campaign. Friends of the River is an equal opportunity employer committed to

Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Experience in campaign organizing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work positively with all kinds of people.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in various computer programs.
  • Dedication to the preservation of the earth, especially California's public
    lands and rivers.


Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with public lands or rivers related issues and/or other
    conservation issues.
