SACE has been a leading voice for energy policy to protect the quality of life and treasured places in the Southeast since 1985.
Position Overview:
We seek a qualified individual to assist with the development and exploration of ways to clean up the largest utility companies in the Southeast U.S. The associate will work in collaboration with allies and SACE to provide strategic direction and implementation of new efforts to move deep south utilities toward increasing clean energy technologies, energy efficiency investments, and reducing reliance on high risk resources like coal and nuclear.
Responsibilities:
- Develops and assists with execution of campaign plans and strategies, prepares materials, assists with grant reports/proposals.
- Working with experts, researches utility operations, financial documents and state environmental/regulatory agency documents related to coal usage and policy compliance. Identifies weaknesses in these areas to highlight utility vulnerabilities.
- Works to sway public opinion in support of clean energy and robust utility planning processes.
- Coordinates efforts to better understand public opinion and opportunities for citizen engagement through media. Plans and implements regular communications with ratepayers and targeted audiences.
- Conducts general outreach and citizen mobilization, particularly in low-income and minority communities.
- Assists efforts to increase utility transparency, fairness and accountability to ratepayers and fosters relationships between consumers and key leaders for the purpose of building grassroots strength.
- Is responsible for internet-based outreach for web initiatives.
- Represents SACE in coalitions.
- Assists with planning for events and strategic community outreach opportunities.
Qualifications:
Candidates qualifications should include:
- Fundamental knowledge of utility and regulatory-body operations, sense of the energy dynamics in the South;
- General knowledge of and commitment to clean energy opportunities for the region;
- Ability to work in challenging and adversarial conditions;
- Outstanding attention to detail;
- Strong people and team player skills;
- Proficiency with and excitement for diversity and ratepayer organizing;
- Excellent writing, research, and communications skills;
- Capacity to manage multiple projects/deadlines;
- Leadership and strategic campaign skills desired;
- Flexibility to work where needed as our campaigns develop;
Bachelors degree is required and we are eager to find candidates who have experience working in diverse groups.
Compensation: Salary range is dependent on experience. Excellent benefits package, generous leave and vacation package.
