Description

Distributed Sun LLC, a growing solar project developer and operator founded in 2009 and based in Washington, DC, is seeking a full-time Solar Project Development Director (SPDD). Compensation will be comprised of a guaranteed base plus commission/bonus for projects closed and targets met. Distributed Sun develops, finances, constructs and operates medium to large (300 kW to 1.5 MW) commercial scale solar projects in the Mid-Atlantic.

Position Overview:

SPDD will manage the full project development process for Distributed Sun. This will involve leading the development process from site identification and property capture vetting/surveying, construction budgeting, project economics and financial viability, and securing the final Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

SPDD will work closely with solar project managers as well as with analysts and managers in Finance and Accounting, Operations and Engineering, Policy, Legal, and other relevant areas to obtain and analyze data for the evaluation of the viability of projects, and to ensure their financial and strategic benefit to Distributed Sun.

SPDD will also be able to identify project risks and mitigation strategies, and present this information and corresponding recommendations to CEO, COO and Investment Committee. As the leader of development division for Distributed Sun, SPDD will also be involved in dialogues with state, local, county, and other government agencies; land owners; media; and industry representatives.

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Thorough understanding of deregulated energy markets, renewable energy economics, and renewable energy market drivers in the Mid-Atlantic. Such knowledge of the rest of the United States is a plus, as are contacts with utility companies, particularly in the renewable energy divisions.
  • Ability to work in a more entrepreneurial environment and with diverse cultures
  • Ability to both think strategically and implement tactically as necessary
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, team-building, communication, negotiation, and presentation skills

Experience/Qualifications:

  • Referenceable portfolio of completed renewable energy projects
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience; MBA a plus
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in renewable energy development, solar energy strongly preferred

Compensation:

  • Compensation for this position will consist of a guaranteed base salary plus commissions for projects closed and bonus for pipeline volume targets met.
  • Level of bonus/commission will vary depending on project size, scope, and financial returns.
