Astralux, established in 1992, is a Boulder, Colorado-based research firm and was originally founded to research and develop opto-electronic materials and devices. Over time the company has expanded to include R&D in a broad range of advanced technologies with the objective of conceiving, growing and launching new businesses to bring best-of-breed innovations to market.

The firm's research contracts with the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Department of Energy and others are directly related to advanced solar energy systems development and give Astralux unique and surpassing capabilities in the field.

The Power Systems group was developed to commercialize these alternative energy technologies and deliver professionally designed solar energy systems to home and business owners. Located in beautiful Boulder, Colorado - with expansion planned for Southern California, Arizona, Nevada, and Texas in early 2009 and New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania in 2010.

Position Overview: 

Our company is looking for a talented, highly motivated, and experienced Solar Installer candidate with significant solar energy system (PV) installation experience.

Applicants should have worked on several solar systems (a minimum of 10 systems preferred), and have experience with all types of roof installations and all types of solar panels (single and polycrystalline, thin films, etc.)

Responsibilties include:

  1. Main responsibilities are to work with design team to set up project timeline and schedule, supervise work crews, manage materials, schedule inspections and perform troubleshooting
  2. Reviewing project design and site conditions with the design team and execute installation at the jobsite
  3. Verify and fine-tune designs during installation, using your experience in design knowledge, site analysis tools, and efficient installation techniques
  4. Insure that all installations meet all code requirements
  5. Work closely with customer to ensure complete satisfaction with final installation
  6. Keep an organized and professional work environment on-site
  7. Further your knowledge with continuing education in the solar and renewable energy fields 

Recommended Qualifications:

  1. Excellent customer service and time management skills
  2. Previous solar installation experience (over 10 systems a plus)
  3. Working knowledge of the NEC Code and AC/DC electrical systems
  4. Working knowledge of Universal Building Codes (Colorado building code knowledge a plus)
  5. Experience mounting solar panels to all types of building materials and various roof types
  6. Good at problem solving and implementing site-specific design modifications
  7. Knowledgeable in installing all types of grid-tied inverters and modules
  8. Reliable transportation and valid drivers' license
  9. Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs, and comfortable working on a variety of roofs
  10. Must have reliable transportation and provide his/her own hand tools 

Desired Qualifications:

  1. MS Degree or several years experience as a Solar Installer
  2. NABCEP certification (or working towards certification)
  3. Carry a contractors license and liability insurance
  4. SEI or similar solar energy training

Compensation: Compensation commensurate with experience and availability. As a solar installer with AES, you will be working directly with the management and design team to deliver a perfectly installed system to the customer.
