Description

The Collaborative for Innovative Social Enterprise Development (CISED) was developed to create a continuum of support for social enterprise in the city of Ottawa through access to technical expertise, financing, learning communities, training, and cross-sector partnerships. Since 2009, CISED has supported more than 50 organizations with existing social enterprises or those considering developing a social enterprise.

CISED will be piloting the Enterprising Non Profits (ENP) model in the fall of 2011, using the widely recognized and successful model from British Columbia that has recently expanded to Alberta and Toronto.

The Causeway Work Centre - an organization with 3 social enterprises and a range of employment and educational programs - is the CISED's lead agency. There are 7 other members of the collaborative including The Ottawa Community Loan Fund, and The Carleton Centre for Community Innovation.

The Social Enterprise Co-ordinator will be joining an ambitious and values driven team at the Causeway Work Centre and will play a supportive role in the further development of CISED, and the ENP Ottawa pilot.

Responsibilities:

1) Sector Building:

  • Actively seek to create connections between social enterprises in Ottawa through networking events and knowledge brokering
  • Promote social enterprise in Ottawa and the supports CISED provides through a variety of communication tools
  • Increase the profile and capacity of the social enterprise sector by partnering with other organizations, individuals, and the private sector
  • Support the executive team at Causeway and other members of the collaborative to evaluate CISED's & ENP Ottawa's impact

2) Capacity Building:

  • Connect organizations to specific types of technical assistance (i.e. marketing, legal, financial) when required
  • Support the implementation of Social Return On Investment (SROI) measurement with mature employment based social enterprises in Ottawa
  • Develop and produce events that are of interest to social enterprise (recent events include Crowdfunding for Social Enterprise and Social Return on Investment)
  • Develop and produce one large event every year that increases the visibility of the social enterprise sector in Ottawa
  • Co-ordinate two ENP-Ottawa workshops, and the ENP grant review process

Qualifications:

  • University or College degree in relevant discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • 3-5 years of experience in project co-ordination, marketing, or sector building in either the for-profit or non-profit sector
  • Experience producing events, marketing, and social media
  • Demonstrated interest in the growing field of social enterprise
  • Strong relationships in the non-profit sector in Ottawa would be a asset

As this program is going through a transition we are willing to consider non-traditional applicants and welcome those who do not meet the above qualifications but who believe they have the capacity to support social enterprise development in Ottawa.

Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience. 4-5 days per week. Start date mid August, with some flexibility for the right candidate
