The Organization: WestStart-CALSTART is North America's leading advanced transportation consortium working to accelerate the commercialization of clean, energy efficient transportation technologies and services. Founded in 1992, WestStart-CALSTART has developed and managed over $150 million in technology development and industry support programs. The organization currently has major programs to facilitate the commercialization of hybrid trucks and buses, fuel cell and hydrogen buses, and other alternative fuels and advanced transportation technologies.
WestStart-CALSTART is looking for a Project Manager with vehicle knowledge to foster innovative "Transit Bus" technology solutions which result in improved air quality, a reduction on our dependence on oil, and that will create new economic opportunities. The ideal candidate will have worked with a light duty or heavy duty vehicle manufacturer, a vehicle OEM or a vehicle power train provider. A key function of this position will be to work with the transit industry, including transit agencies, system suppliers, and vehicle makers and lead a dialogue towards a consensus based action plans.
Responsibilities
Project Management:
* Support transit bus industry including Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) segment with a focus on the vehicle;
* Manage relations with key WestStart-CALSTART customers and stakeholders;
* Facilitate development of advanced fuels and technologies in transit industry through top level market analysis;
* Plan, budget, track costs, maintain quality control and schedule projects;
* Assist with the definition of our strategic direction on our BRT program.
Business Case Analysis:
* Conduct, oversee and lead industry-wide business case assessments;
* Development of roadmaps providing advanced vehicle propulsion system or fuels pathways;
* Perform analysis leading to meaningful conclusions about technology status and market demand. Proposals and grant writing:
* Write and prepare high-grade proposals and project reports in a timely manner;
Outreach and Consensus Building
* Convene diverse stakeholder groups and build consensus around clear technology commercialization goals and objectives;
* Present complex technical concepts in a clear and compelling way;
* Make presentations and represent WestStart-CALSTART at industry meetings and conferences.
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of experience, preferably in the transit, bus, or advanced vehicle; propulsion systems industry; Bachelor's degree; Effective leader, manager, and supporter of work teams; Background or competency dealing with technologies and technical issues; Automotive or transit vehicle knowledge.
Required Skills: Strong writing and communication skills; Capable of presenting to and working with industry groups; Working understanding and facility with spreadsheets and databases; Strong group facilitation and interpersonal skills; Strong analytical skills.
Preferred Skills and Experience: Technical or advanced degree; Knowledge of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) industry and BRT vehicles; Knowledge of fuel cell or hydrogen propulsion systems; Specific technical expertise or familiarity with clean and efficient propulsion systems and fuels including hybrids; Experience in leading efforts to adopt new technologies or systems.
