We're connecting all the different players of the global supply, sustainable and fair trade consumer product chain on a large scale, in a way that's never been done before.
Position Overview:
The Senior Manager will focus on developing relationships with certification labels and membership organizations that verify people and eco positive organizations. To ensure that the marketplace is a trusted environment, retailers and wholesalers are eligible to sell on the marketplace only if they are affiliated with a verification or certification organization - a Trust Provider - that is associated with the marketplace. Trust provider organizations (examples: trust marks such as transfair, rainforest alliance, etc.) are composed of many seller members with ethical products; as such, partnerships with Trust Providers are the starting point to bring supply onto the marketplace.
The Senior Manager's role is to build and execute a strategy to determine which trust Provider relationships are critical to the marketplace, recruit those trust providers and maintain relationshsips with existing trust providers.
This position is housed at World of Good inc, in Emeryville. The position is ideal for someone who has experience in the certification sector - be it in eco or fair trade space-and is excellent at managing relationships.
Responsibilities:
- Map the eco-positive space to determine the gating logic (i.e. which products should/should not be accepted on the marketplace). Determine which trust providers are high priority to ensure supply of eco-positive and people-positive products and sellers.
- Recruit key Trust Providers as partners to the website and negotiate partnership agreements with them. Leverage these relationships to generate opportunities to market to members of the trust provider organizations.
- Ensure that the marketplace's ethical screening and gating logic are honored in all seller enrollment.
- Help evolve and guide the gating logic as the site matures based on the feedback of the sector. Own the evolution of the WorldofGood.com Trustology system to ensure that appropriate screening mechanisms are in place to:
- Ensure ethical standards of the marketplace are adhered to.
- Ensure adequate supply on the marketplace.
- Own the evolution of the WorldofGood.com Goodprint system - a social report card where WorldofGood.com sellers report on the social impact of their items for sale.
- High likelihood of working to recruit UK/European based Trust Providers, which would entail travel to UK as well as working during UK daylight hours from the US.
- Manage the calendar of opportunities to market to members of trust provider organizations.
- Work with the World of Good Seller recruitment team on marketing communications to sellers and developing marketing opportunities.
- Collaborate with eBay team to provide input on the Trust Provider's experience to the user experience team and the customer facing team and help design the technology to support successful, easy enrollment and transaction flow.
- Potential travel to UK if the marketplace expands to the UK.
Qualifications:
Passion for Socially-Conscious Products, Fair Trade and Positive Social Change:
- You must be interested in and motivated by our social mission, and be committed to socially-responsible business practices. You must have the skills to effectively communicate that mission to our customers and partners.
Sector Experience:
- You must have experience in the eco and people positive space, and an excellent understanding of how labels, certifications, verifications are evolving in the space.
- Your experience must demonstrate excellence in project initiative, leadership, outreach, interpersonal skills, relationship building, enthusiasm, commitment to excellent results-all skills that will correlate with success on this team.
- Must be willing to travel for conferences, presentations and meetings with trust providers, as well as to the UK if the marketplace expands.
Communication and Professional Skills:
- Outstanding verbal and written communications skills are essential to succeed in this position, as well as the ability to communicate in a public arena.
- Proficiency in computers, MS Word and Excel is a must. Resourcefulness, initiative, and a strong work ethic are required.
- You must possess the ability to work through multiple tasks simultaneously, manage time efficiently, and work with minimal supervision.
Education:
- BA/BS in business or other discipline related to socially-conscious products or World of Good's mission preferred; transferable experience may be substituted if the fit is good.
Compensation: Salary is $60k plus stock options, full benefits package, including health, dental, vision, 401K, FSA, and discounted gym membership.
