Description

We are a dynamic and innovative national Indigenous organization seeking someone who can lead a dedicated consulting research team with a focus on First Nation and environmental issues. In this position you will be responsible for ongoing planning and coordinating of the consulting research division of CIER, business development, and for managing the existing five-member research team. You are an innovative, interdisciplinary thinker, accustomed to thinking about the "big picture" while focussing on practical, community-level projects. You are also able to motivate and build capacity and consensus within a team setting, provide stability and direction to your team as well as maintain high productivity levels and quality of work. As well, you possess excellent project development and management skills particularly in the areas of proposal writing, editing, budgeting, financial reporting, time tracking, staff mentoring and team-building.

We have been successful in creating or securing projects related to climate change, green procurement and technologies, contaminants, waste management, and sustainability indicators. As well, our consulting has focused on sustainable development policy, traditional environmental knowledge and its application as well as environmental assessment policy. Most of our work has included a component of community-based training.

This is a 12 month, term position with a strong potential to become full-time. There is some flexibility to consider a flexible or part-time work arrangement. To be part of our team, you possess a Ph.D (either interdisciplinary or social science based, i.e. environmental studies, sociology) with a minimum of 7 years research and management experience OR a Masters degree in the same area with a minimum of 10 years experience at the senior consulting research and management levels.

Experience working in a cross-cultural setting particularly with Indigenous peoples is mandatory, as is a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of environmental issues facing Indigenous peoples and communities. As well, experience working in a fast-paced environment, and a proven track record of meeting multiple deadlines on a consistent basis is also required. This position works as part of a small senior management team, and reports directly to the Executive Director.
