Description

Portland Energy Conservation, Inc. (PECI) is an industry leader with over 25 years of history developing and implementing innovative approaches to energy and resource efficiency. We offer our local and national clients a unique combination of expert research, program design, and on-the-ground delivery. We have exciting opportunities for individuals who want to bring their passion and commitment to work within the energy efficiency market.

Position Overview:

PECI's Commercial Retail group seeks a Senior Engineer to lead PECI's roof top package unit HVAC programs and research efforts. This position is a highly strategic role providing foundational direction and support for new and existing programs, and leads or contributes to nationally recognized research efforts.

The Senior Engineer will conceive of, develop and manage innovative technical projects such as utility program and measure design, determination of energy savings for a variety of retrofits and operational changes, and the creation of industry protocols (e.g. recommissioning for small commercial buildings).  The Engineer will drive evaluation of new methods and technologies, inform and develop codes and standards, identify and pursue opportunities for market transformation, and will interface with industry leaders in technical, program and policy areas. Internally, this position is the liaison between executive leadership, program leadership, and technical staff.

The Senior Engineer will be responsible for guiding staff through the development of efficiency measures, utility work papers, the creation and implementation of M&V efforts, and other crucial engineering work.  The Engineer will also have the opportunity to identify, pursue and present solutions to challenging issues surrounding small HVAC equipment, including the impact of charge on unit kW consumption, and the soundness of savings calculated by RTU tune up methodologies.

Externally, the Engineer will represent PECI in leading edge technical and policy forums such as ASHRAE, the Pacific Northwest's Regional Technical Forum, the California Energy Commission, the California Air Resources Board, and State and Federal Departments of Energy. Mentoring, training and developing both technical and program staff are also important components of the job.

Responsibilities:

  • Practice strategic and critical thinking, creative problem solving, and propose new ideas and approaches
  • Contribute to PECI's thought leadership in the package HVAC space
  • Evaluation and development of program and measure designs
  • Technical oversight and mentoring of technical staff
  • Management of projects to ensure overall program progress and on-time deliverables
  • Inform Group and Company strategy and direction
  • Ensure that utility client needs are met
  • Propose and design new processes and workflows to improve efficiency and performance
  • Development and management of work plans and budgets

Qualifications:

  • Strong experience in project and/or program management
  • B.S. in Engineering preferred; individuals with a related technical degree coupled with directly relevant professional experience will be considered; PE certification desired but not required
  • Minimum 7 years experience in the areas above
  • Ability to manage and absorb technical details and information from a big picture perspective
  • Ability to think and communicate creatively and strategically
  • Ability to work under pressure, with energy and enthusiasm
  • Strong problem-solving and issue resolution skills; comfortable exercising judgment in ambiguous situations
  • Results oriented; ability to multi-task in a fast paced work environment
  • Understanding of utility energy efficiency measure concerns, including work-papers and custom measure processes
  • Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated commitment to energy efficiency initiatives
