Description

~ The Action Center on Race and the Economy (ACRE) drives campaigns that seek to win structural change by directly taking on the financial elite responsible for pillaging communities of color and working class communities and harming our environment. ~

Through partnerships with organizations involved in local racial, economic, environmental and educational justice campaigns, we provide strategic campaign coordination and campaign infrastructure with an explicit racial justice analysis.

Position Overview

The Senior Development Associate reports directly to the Co-Executive Directors, providing support to all aspects of the organization’s fundraising and development activities. The Senior Development Associate will be responsible for developing individual donor campaigns, managing our relationships with foundations, as well as advising the Co-Executive Directors on prospective fundraising opportunities and development strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee our annual fundraising prograM

  • Write and submit concept papers, proposals, and grant applications to funders in a timely manner

  • Prepare and submit narrative and financial reports to funders in a timely manner

  • Keep track of fundraising calendars and deadlines

  • Identify prospective individual and foundation donors and develop strategies to cultivate those relationships

  • Stay abreast of all aspects of ACRE’s programmatic work in order to write and report on it and proactively look for new development opportunities 

  • Ensure ongoing communications with donors

  • Develop online and print marketing materials related to fundraising in collaboration with our communications department

  • Manage and plan potential fundraising events

  • Manage donor thanking and receipting

  • Meet regularly with Co-Executive Directors on fundraising strategy

  • Help Co-Executive Director prepare for funder meetings

Qualifications

  • A strong commitment to progressive social change and racial justice, a familiarity with the issues that are central to ACRE’s work and a passion for ACRE’s vision and mission

  • Minimum two years of development or fundraising experience

  • Excellent writing and editing skills

  • Excellent computer/technology skills, especially in MS Office suite

  • Proficiency in Internet-based research, MS Office Suite and database design and management

  • Strong critical thinking skills and ability to think creatively and innovatively.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a team

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in politically sensitive and high-pressure environments

  • Effective time management skills, including prioritizing and managing multiple tasks, with light supervision

  • Willingness to work long and irregular hours

  •  A good sense of humorA track record of leading a planning process with mid-sized to large coalitions with a diverse set of members

Job Details

LGBTQ, women and people of color strongly encouraged to apply. Salary range for this position is $60,000-$80,000, plus a 10% cost of living adjustment for people living in the New York City, Washington DC, Los Angeles, and San Francisco/Oakland metropolitan areas. Position includes excellent benefits. Location is flexible but Chicago or Detroit is preferred.
