Position Overview:

OAI is seeking 2 senior analysts to support the NOAA National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Office of Protected Resources in Silver Spring, MD. OAI conducts research, offers policy advice, and provides personnel support services to government and industry clients for marine fisheries and protected species. We are under contract to provide support services to the NMFS Office of Protected Resources. A start time for these one year positions will be August, 2013.

These positions will be responsible for assisting the NMFS Office of Protected Resources (OPR) in conduct of ESA section 7 consultations on proposed issuances of scientific research permits for sea turtles, corals, and other species under NOAA Fisheries' jurisdiction.

The work location will be at the NMFS Office of Protected Resources, 1315 East West Highway, Silver Spring, MD 20910.

Responsibilities:


These positions will assist OPR managers and staff biologists with specific tasks including:

  • Collection of scientific information for development of the description of the action, environmental baseline, status of affected species, cumulative effects, and exposure and responses analyses.
  • Work with OPR staff, NMFS Science Centers, and NOAA General Council to help develop alternatives and to obtain information necessary for consultations.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. in environmental / biological science.
  • Experience in working with natural resource federal regulations and assessing effects of research and other activities on specific species.
  • Training/experience in drafting, reviewing, editing, compilation of materials into a final document.  

Compensation: The salary is $27.24 per hour. The contract is for full-time work, 40hrs/week, for approximately 12 months. Excellent employee benefits are provided including paid medical insurance, and holiday, vacation and sick leave, and more.
