SIMoN Scientist
The SIMoN Scientist will be responsible for developing collaborations with regional scientists to share monitoring data, for interpreting monitoring trends, and for working effectively with SIMoN staff to facilitate a request for proposal process. The incumbent will work closely with the SIMoN staff to make relevant monitoring information available to resource managers and the public. Under direction of the SIMoN Program Director, the SIMoN Scientist will also run the day-to-day operations of ongoing Sanctuary staff monitoring programs such as beach and kelp surveys. This position is funded by the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary,through the Monterey Bay Sanctuary Foundation in an annual contract to the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
Must posses a graduate degree in biological or physical sciences; ability to assess experimental designs and trends in monitoring data; experience in conducting marine ecological field work in the north-east Pacific; skill in building collaborations in research, and interagency cooperation through the use of interpersonal skills and partnering; ability to write clearly and succinctly, including scientific journal style; knowledge of monitoring programs to support resource management issues; highly organized, self motivated, and strong interpersonal skills; knowledge of Title III of the Marine Protection, Research and Sanctuaries Act and the National Marine Sanctuary System history and mission.
