Description
SCA Hudson Valley seeks applicants for the following internships. Both are open until filled (latest start date November) and run for 5 months. Interns receive $160/wk living allowance; a $360 monthly allowance for housing; free accident and health insurance; AmeriCorps Education Award of $2,363; student loan deferment; and a relocation grant to assist with moving expenses. Both positions require personal transportation to and from work and US citizenship or permanent residency.
Benefits: $160 per week living allowance; housing or additional stipend for housing if not provided; free accident and health insurance, AmeriCorps Education Award (for most positions) ranging from $1,000 to $4,725 (presented as a voucher that can be used to pay off student loans or go toward future education), student loan deferment, and a relocation grant to assist with moving expenses.
Requirements: To be eligible you must have a college degree or equivalent including relevant coursework and/or fieldwork experience, effective communication skills, and the ability to work independently. You must have personal transportation to commute to and from your internship each day from your apartment or home. Eligible applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents. Please note that individual positions may have additional requirements regarding related studies, experience and/or certifications. There is no age limit for any positions, although flexibility and a spirit of adventure are a must! These positions will be selected on a competitive basis. New York Department of State: Division of Cultural Resources - Albany, NY
Coastal Resource Planning Assistant, starts immediately (5 month positions). Intern would provide technical support for the Long Island marine region for the implementation of the States Coastal Management Program and regional plans, such as the Long Island South Shore Estuary Reserve Comprehensive Management Plan. Duties: Assist staff of the Division of Coastal Resources in the delivery of program services to local municipalities on Long Island in the following areas: update and revise narratives and maps for Significant Coastal Fish and Wildlife Habitat Program sites on Long Island South Shore; contract work program development in conjunction with the Environmental Protection Fund Local Waterfront Revitalization Program; provision of technical assistance to local governments conducting comprehensive community planning efforts to implement SSER CMP objectives; and preparation for State's annual Quality Communities, Quality Coast Conference. Required: BA/BS or equivalent in land use planning, geography or related field. Effective communication skills, including interaction with people, and excellent organizational and writing skills. New York State Department of Health- Center for Environmental HealthTroy, NY
Environmental Health Field Worker, starts immediately (5 month position). The Division of Environmental Health Protection located in Troy, NY offers a unique opportunity to provide a variety of essential functions of the Department of Health that contribute to protection of public health and disaster preparedness. Responsibilities: Development of improved information necessary to support GIS applications for specific environmental health and disaster preparedness needs, validating and evaluating data for a variety of critical infrastructure data sets; e.g. improve security of public drinking water systems statewide, develop and disseminate public outreach materials, serve as a volunteer and recruit community residents as volunteers for Red Cross emergency response functions. Required: BA/BS Environmental Studies or related field. Desired: Strong public speaking, writing, and interpersonal skills, current first aid certifications, GIS knowledge. Position code: HVDOH1-1
