We are a rapidly-growing non-profit organization with expertise in plant ecology, restoration biology, wildlife biology, endangered species recovery, community outreach and education, environmental policy, and fundraising.
River Partners' focus is on-the-ground restoration results, with the
majority of our efforts dedicated to implementation of ecologically-based habitat restoration projects. River Partners collaborates with many regional, national and international conservation organizations and agencies to effect large-scale, science-based habitat improvement for riparian-dependent species.
Position Overview:
The Restoration Biologist works directly with biology and field staff to
design and implement riparian restoration projects and monitoring programs to further our understanding of restoration ecology. The successful candidate also develops proposals for future restoration projects, develops and delivers public education and outreach materials, and writes and presents research articles.
This position requires effective collaboration with local, regional and international conservation organizations, landowners and resource agency personnel.
The Restoration Biologist reports to the Restoration Ecologist in our satellite Modesto office, and collaborates closely with the San Joaquin Valley field implementation staff as well as the biology team in our main office in Chico, California. The successful candidate takes a lead role in designing and managing the performance monitoring program for a number of projects in the San Joaquin Valley including oversight of data collection and analysis by temporary field staff.
Responsibilities:
Examples of typical duties include:
- Designing research projects and collecting data that describes wildlife population response to restoration, plant response to management, and plant response to environmental stressors
- Leading the collection of field data to support performance assessment and adaptive management
- Interacting regularly with field staff to guide adaptive management
- Writing research and restoration proposals for various conservation programs
- Working with the Restoration Ecologist to manage project timelines and budgets
- Developing educational materials for public outreach events, science conferences and field tours
- Participating in policy and planning initiatives at the local, state and national levels
Qualifications:
Required:
BS in biology, ecology, environmental science, agriculture science or related science, and 1-2 years professional experience in plant ecology, wildlife biology, field data collection, ecological restoration, or ecological research that supports environmental conservation.
Other requirements include:
- Knowledge of vegetation sampling and experimental design
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- A valid California driver's license with no restrictions
The successful candidate will demonstrate skilled use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, and geo-spatial software. Additionally, the successful candidate must enjoy working with a diverse group of people and be a selfstarting and effective worker, juggling multiple projects and timelines with minimal direct supervision.

This position is based out of River Partners' satellite office in Modesto, California. This position will require overnight travel up to 3 nights per month, and some evening and weekend work. This position is full time and permanent.
