~ The Tamalpais Lands Collaborative (TLC) is a new partnership made up of the National Park Service, California State Parks, Marin County Parks, Marin Municipal Water District and the Parks Conservancy. ~

The TLC combines the expertise and resources of its partners to ensure the long-term health of Mt. Tamalpais by advancing efforts to restore ecosystems, improve trail corridors, enhance visitor services, expand education and stewardship programming, and inspire community support through volunteerism and philanthropy.

One Tam is an initiative in support of TLC goals. The One Tam Stewardship Program works to restore key areas while providing meaningful opportunities for community involvement. The program also works to foster collaboration with local community groups and to build numerous long-term community partnerships.

Internship Overview 

We are looking to hire two interns who are excited about working on
habitat restoration and community science projects while inspiring and
engaging the local community in the conservation of Mt. Tamalpais as
part of the One Tam initiative of the Tamalpais Lands Collaborative.

The One Tam Restoration and Community Science interns will assist
with restoration, community science, and stewardship efforts across the
mountain by engaging the community through volunteer events.

The interns
will help expand upon existing restoration activities, help build the
infrastructure of the restoration team, work to increase public
awareness, engage new communities and increase volunteer support. One
intern will focus on leading volunteers in restoration, while the other
will focus on community science.

Responsibilities 

Description of Duties 


The successful candidates will support the One Tam Restoration and Community Science Manager in the following duties:
 

  • Assist with and lead volunteer programs to restore habitats and maintain trails.
  • Develop volunteer trainings and educational materials for the Marin
    Wildlife Picture Index Project (WPIP) and other community science
    projects.
  • Service wildlife cameras in the field, and process and manage photos.
  • Support and manage current volunteers and outreach to potential volunteers.
  • Support One Tam website and gather social media content.
  • Maintain good communication and working relations with agency staff and other partners.
  • Maintain tools and equipment, and other miscellaneous duties.

Desired Qualifications 

  • Strong commitment to community participation and stewardship in parks and open space.
  • Demonstrated interest in ecology, wildlife, resource management, and/ or park stewardship.
  • Experience with restoration, trail work, or other service work.
  • Ability to work independently and assume a leadership role as needed.
  • Desire to work in a team and to work with a diversity of people with different backgrounds.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Basic computer literacy; experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
  • A valid driver’s license and clean driving record; ability to pass a LiveScan background check.

Physical Requirements and Work Environments 

  • Ability to work outdoors during all weather conditions and walk on uneven terrain.
  • Ability to maintain concentration and focus in an office setting.
  • Ability to lift, carry and position objects weighing up to 30 pounds.

Compensation

  • Dorm-style housing and a stipend of $35/day ($175/week), or a stipend of $55/ day ($250/ week) without housing, is provided.

    science at a highly respected non-profit organization partnering with
    four land management agencies.

Terms

  • Length of position: August 2015 through July 2016.
  • Schedule: Generally Tuesday – Saturday, full-time.
  • Reporting location: Sky Oaks Ranger Station, Fairfax, CA.
