Green Education Foundation (GEF) is a fast growing non-profit organization that provides online sustainability education resources to K-12 schools and youth groups nationwide. GEF programs include National Green Week, which mobilized millions of students in 2010, the Green Building Program, Green Energy Challenge, and Green Thumb Challenge - the largest youth gardening initiative in history.

Position Overview: 

Green Education Foundation (GEF) is seeking a talented graduate student to assist with research and outline development of one or more textbook units related to sustainability education in energy and water. This position will work directly with the lead author of the textbook.

GEF's primary focus in sustainability education connects environmental, economic, and social systems-thinking with real-world applied learning strategies, and promotes civic agency within the context of academic excellence and innovation through interdisciplinary and experiential learning. The core goal of the textbook is to provide teachers with the knowledge and skills essential to integrate sustainability into the content of their curricula.

Responsibilities:

  • Research and draft content for GEF course outlines on topics related to energy, water, green building, and sustainability concepts
  • Revise and edit previously developed content to meet standards outlined by project team
  • Align curriculum development with established course goals, learning objectives, and outlined course standards
  • Identify current Sustainability Education and national education adult learning best practices, and state and local education requirements

Qualifications:

Required: 

  • Ideal candidate is either pursuing or has completed a Masters or PhD program, with a focus on Education and Environment, Energy Systems, or Sustainability Education Studies
  • Demonstrated content expertise in Sustainability Education or a related discipline
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Expertise in Microsoft Word/Office
  • Work can be completed remotely; high-speed internet access and computer are required

Desired:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of current K-12 pedagogy and adult learning theories
  • Classroom teaching experience, preferably both K-12 and professional development
  • Experience teaching and/or curriculum development
  • Creativity and knowledge of innovative virtual learning tools/pedagogy

Compensation: This is an unpaid internship for 15 hours per week
