Description
New Yorkers for Parks, a citywide parks advocacy organization, seeks a summer intern to assist with research and community outreach projects that relate to public parks and recreation services in New York City. This full time position requires an interest in environmental advocacy, community organizing, and public policy. This internship is available to a self-starting student with strong research and people skills, clear and accurate writing ability, excellent computer skills, and commitment to the maintenance and programming of parks and open spaces. This is a full-time, ten-week internship with a $4000 stipend. The internship runs from mid-June to August and is located in mid-town Manhattan.
The intern will assist with various projects including, but not limited to park evaluations throughout the five boroughs and data collection on natural areas in New York City public parks.
The internship will require significant involvement in New Yorkers for Parks community outreach efforts. The intern may be asked to coordinate and lead community groups on park evaluations or to represent the organization at events throughout the City.
Successful applicants will either have recently completed or be working on a bachelors (in their third or forth year) or masters degree in environmental studies, urban planning, community development, conservation studies or a related field. Applicants must be well-versed in Excel and web-based research. General proficiency in other Microsoft Office programs is also required.
