Position Overview
Fornia BioSolutions is seeking candidates to fill the position of Research Associate, Synthetic Biology, in Hayward, CA. We are looking for highly motivated people willing to work in in a fast-paced, highly rewarding, and scientifically stimulating environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist automation lead to maintain smooth operation of high throughput platforms.
- Perform calibration and routine maintenance of analytical equipment.
- Assist automation lead in trouble shooting analytical equipment.
- Optimize assay conditions effectively and efficiently to validate performance of microbial strains.
- Support the high throughput screening of in-house developed strain collections.
- Develop and run computational tools to guide strain engineering projects.
- Support current laboratory information management system.
- Keep diligent records and write SOPs.
Qualifications
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Engineering, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, or related field plus at least 4 years post graduate or industrial experience; or Master's degree (or higher) in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Engineering, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, or related field or related field plus at least 2 years post graduate or industrial experience.
- Experience in protein characterization, analytical biochemistry, and assay development in 96 well format.
- Familiarity of expression systems including bacteria, yeast, and fungi.
- Excellent understanding of the software and hardware used in laboratory automation platform.
- Solid knowledge and hands on experience in various chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques and instruments such as HPLC, UPLC, microplate spectrophotometer etc.
- Proficiency in at least one standard bioinformatics programming language (Perl, Python, R, Java, etc.).
- Ability to develop, test, and implement tools quickly, with feedback from data production and analysis teams.
- Knowledge of common computational biology and bioinformatics databases and tools is a plus.
- Experience with structural-based modeling packages is a plus.
- Experience with administration and/or support of laboratory information management system is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary research team.
- Demonstrated ability to approach solutions by systematic trouble-shooting.
- Experience with technical and scientific writing.
- Ability to think critically and creatively.
- Excellent collaboration, communication (oral and written) and multitasking skills.
- Goal-oriented, organized individual with a strong desire to a fast-paced dynamic research and development environment.
