We are currently looking for a new research analyst to be part of our research team with a focus in North American region.
Domini Social Investments is a family of socially responsible mutual funds. Domini's Funds consist of 2 equity funds organized by geographical region and a domestic fixed-income fund:
- Domini Social Equity Fund
- Domini International Social Equity Fund
- Domini Social Bond Fund
Through its Global Investment Standards, engagement with corporations, and public policy initiatives, Domini calls attention to its responsibilities as an investor, incorporates considerations of social and environment risks and rewards into its investment policies and practices, and seeks to add value beyond simple price-based financial returns to its investment products, the corporations in which it invests, and the society of which we are a part.
Position Overview:
The Research Analyst is primarily responsible for the researching of the social and environmental records of publicly traded United States and Canadian companies, as well as for in-depth background research on specific issues of environmental and social concern. In addition, the Research Analyst will be expected to cover a certain number of international companies as well. The analyst will be expected to:
- Maintain a broad knowledge of social and environmental issues as they relate to North American companies and how they relate to international norms and standards
- Have a good understanding of the North American regulatory and cultural environments and how they relate to international norms and standards
- Have a good understanding of the North American business environment and business models of North American industries and how they relate to international norms and standards
- Contribute to the refining process of Domini's research processes
The Research Analyst will need to be able to communicate effectively with research team members and senior management; participate in a timely manner in the day-to-day researching processes of the department; and promote the company's research and engagement activities to investors.
In addition, the Research Analyst will be expected to devote approximately half a day per week to client contact. This consists primarily of communications with shareholders in the Domini Funds who have inquiries about their accounts, companies in the portfolio, or other issues relating to their investments in the funds.
Responsibilities:
- Analyzing company documents, press articles, and third-party reports in order to evaluate companies according to Domini's standards regarding environmental management, product quality, and corporate relations with customers, employees, investors, and communities
- Completing profiles of North American companies in a timely manner
- Contacting community, environmental, human rights, labor and other public interest organizations that analyze the social and environmental records of companies
- Attending Investment Committee meetings and presenting research to the Investment Committee
- Communicating and collaborating with the advocacy team
- Keeping current on developments in the social investment industry
- Developing and maintaining in-depth and focused understanding of specific social and environmental issues
- Answering shareholder inquiries about the Domini funds
Qualifications:
- Professional experience required, experience in sustainability or SRI research highly desirable.
- Solid writing and research skills, including the ability to produce definitive analysis.
- Knowledge and strong interests in social and environmental issues, particularly in corporate and investment context.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of corporate social responsibility, sustainability, and/or responsible investing
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to execute tasks in a timely manner.
- Familiarity with research methodologies and processes.
- Broad interest in the business and financial worlds.
- Bachelor's degree in related fields (social sciences, finance, business, humanities, environmental science, etc.). Graduate degree preferable.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
