The Pulsed Power Sciences Center at Sandia National Laboratories is accountable for advancing the understanding, development, and application of pulsed power for the missions of the nuclear weapons program. The Center also utilizes its major experimental, theoretical, and computational capabilities to meet the national security and fundamental science needs of numerous Sandia and external customers. Center 1600 is Sandia's home base organization for research in High Energy Density Physics (HEDP), Inertial Confinement Fusion (ICF), Advanced Radiography, Pulsed Power Science and Technology, and Fusion Technologies.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Quality Assurance Specialist to support the Pulsed Power Science Center management team and staff with continuous improvement of the management systems and documentation. This includes generation and analyses of process information, communications and documentation management, and Center and Division reporting of safety, security, program, and general assurance activities.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in or manage directors center-wide initiatives by auditing, monitoring, and tracking processes design, and implementation and effectiveness
  • Support the center Environmental Safety and Health (ES&H) coordinators with Work Planning and Control (WP&C) improvements, assurance reports, safety cases
  • Assist the management team with Assurance Information System (AIS) reporting and Division 1000 Quality Management Assurance (QMA) data compilation and participation in assessment
  • Support ICF and Science Campaign with Center Publications tracking, Radiation Effects and High Energy Density Science (REHEDS) reports and Quarterly Plan, Authorize, Track, Report tool (PLATR) deliverables compilation
  • Ensure continuous improvement of document control procedures and records management processes
  • Maintain and manage the centers online documentation systems, quality policies, processes, procedures, and tools (SharePoint and Confluence)
  • Establish and manage AIS records and documentation for Z Facility Beryllium Exposure and Minimization Plan
  • Asses processes and systems and conducts risk analysis, root cause analysis, corrective or preventive actions, lessons learned, and benchmarking
  • Tracking corrective and preventive actions to completion

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelors degree in a relevant discipline
  • 5 years of related work experience
  • Experience with or education related to quality assurance practices, documentation standards, and tools
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance

Desired:

  • Versatile and broad knowledge base to assist staff and management to effectively and efficiently implement and document assurance and business practices
  • Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality of information
  • Strong writing, communication, critical thinking and organizational skills
  • Experience applying safety, security and quality principles in a large-scale research environment
  • Experience with data-driven or risk-based decision-making
  • Experience with occurrence reporting and management processes

Additional Information

Sandia will conduct a pre-employment drug testing, and a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record checks, and employment and education verifications. Further, employees in New Mexico must pass a U.S. Air Force background screen for access to the work site. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause access to be denied or terminated, rendering the inability to perform the duties assigned and resulting in termination of employment.

Applicants for DOE-granted security clearances must be U.S. citizens and be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate DOE security clearance as required for the position.
