Position Overview:
Responsible for all aspects of leading product development from concept through production for LI-COR's Environmental product lines. This product line includes world-class scientific instrumentation supporting research in plant physiology and photosynthesis, global climate change, and atmospheric trace gas measurement.
Responsibilities:
- Leadership: Lead and unify cross-functional project teams into a cohesive working group. Identify and define product requirements. Effectively communicate project goals, expectations, schedules and requirements. Provide leadership to keep the team on track, identifying scope changes and feature creep.
- Project planning, estimating and tracking: Gather input and generate an estimate of tasks, milestones, resource needs, budget, schedule, and expected performance outcomes. Collect, track, compare and present project related information. Collaborate with department managers for resource allocation.
- Manage advisor sites, customer visits: Manage advisor sites and beta sites. Manage customer expectations, write work plans, supervise work plan execution, and collect and prioritize site feedback. Cultivate customer relationships.
- Product training: Train in-house and external users on the use of new instruments and software.
- Product Support: Provide ongoing support of released products. Put in place and administer tracking systems for problems and enhancement requests that can be used for product updates and future products.
- Maintain ISO certification: Ensure product is developed in accordance with established ISO procedures.
- Travel: Requires moderate domestic and international travel to customer and beta sites, various conferences, trade shows, and scientific meetings.
Qualifications:
Professional Qualifications:
Education: BS degree in engineering or equivalent (electrical, mechanical, or computer engineering degree preferred) Master's in engineering or science field preferred.
Experience & Skills:
- 5+ years experience leading new product development projects preferred.
- Demonstrated team leadership capabilities which includes a "get it done" attitude, ability to meet and exceed expectations and goals, and diplomatic savvy in building consensus and making decisions.
- Demonstrated knowledge of product development processes and issues related to it.
- Demonstrated abilities and interest in complex scientific and/or engineering subjects and problem solving.
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills in English.
