Position Overview: 

DNV Global Energy Concepts is seeking a Project Engineer - Energy Analyst for our downtown Seattle, Washington, and Lowell, Massachusetts office. In this role you will focus on analyzing wind resource and other data to develop energy estimates for commercial wind energy projects. Responsibilities:

  • Validate and analyze meteorological data
  • Visit project sites and long-term reference locations to evaluate measurement equipment, terrain, and land use
  • Conduct wind flow modeling studies (flow over terrain & wake loss modeling)
  • Estimate wind project output using on-site and off-site wind data and wind turbine performance characteristics
  • Evaluate energy production, estimate technical losses, and conduct statistical uncertainty analyses
  • Write detailed technical reports which "tell the story" of the data evaluation and findings
  • Interact directly with clients, including educating clients regarding methods and results, presenting a professional company image to clients by email, phone, and in person, and identifying where additional services may be offered
  • Perform other tasks in support of the company's consulting work such as but not limited to designing turbine layouts, developing photo simulations, and selecting appropriate turbine models

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • College degree in engineering (preferred) or other technical field. Masters degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of practical, related experience, preferably in the wind energy industry. Additional experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Exceptional attention to detail and analytical abilities required
  • Familiarity with industry software and wind resource assessment and industry standard software (WAsP, Windfarm, WindPRO) preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Ability to multi-task, adapt and perform in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships and work effectively and professionally with diverse people - clients and colleagues
  • Proficiency in MS Office programs (principally Outlook, Word, Excel, Access)
  • Familiarity with remote sensing technology for wind measurement (SODAR, LIDAR) preferred
  • Familiarity with CFD wind modeling a plus
  • MATLAB, Visual Basic programming, and/or Access database development experience a plus
  • Proposal writing and consulting background a plus
  • Familiarity with mapping software and concepts a plus

Physical Requirements:

  • Regular (up to approximately 25% of work time) domestic and international travel to other company office locations, site locations, client offices, and conferences required
  • Occasional work outdoors in harsh conditions including but not limited to climbing stairs and ladders to ascend wind turbines, looking up to view towers, traveling by car up to 6 hours and walking on uneven terrain
