Description
The Project Engineer will be responsible for managing the design and permitting of large-scale solar electric systems. This includes performing site qualification visits, developing electrical and structural system designs, developing the necessary design drawing sets, overseeing the permitting submission and procurement process and supporting the submission of interconnection applications.
The Project Engineer will also be responsible to provide pre-sales support to access project viability and develop preliminary designs to support sales efforts. The Project Engineer may also be involved with the development of new products that support more efficient and cost effective ways of installing solar electric systems.
Responsibilities:
This individual is responsible for the following tasks:
- Attend site qualification visits to collect information required to complete the design and permitting of large-scale solar electric systems.
- Develop structural and electrical designs for large-scale solar electric systems that meet all national, state and local code requirements as well as customer defined requirements.
- Create professional design drawings showing the structural, electrical and site plan design of large-scale solar electric systems.
- Manage the submission of drawings to the appropriate agency in order to obtain the necessary permits to allow for construction of large-scale solar electric systems.
- Coordinate the development of a bill of material for each project based on the final approved design
- Provide technical input to support the interconnection application and approval process
- Provide support during the inspection of system installations in order to obtain final inspection approval.
- Manage the development of new products that support more efficient and cost effective ways of installing solar electric systems when necessary.
Skills and Experience:
The individual filling this position would ideally have the following skills and experience. Applicants that lack all of the requirements below may still be considered on a case-by-case basis depending on their qualification in key areas:
- A Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. A Mechanical Engineering degree may be acceptable depending on the amount of electrical design experience the candidate has.
- Minimum of 3 years experience performing design and permitting activities with a solar electric installation company -OR- a minimum of 5 years experience performing design and permitting activities with an electrical engineering company.
- Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD 2004 software
- Strong organizational skills to manage the activities required in the design and permitting of large-scale solar electric systems.
- Good working knowledge of MS Office programs - Word and Excel specifically
- Occasional regional travel (15 to 20%) to attend site qualification visits and to provide design support during system permitting, construction and inspection.
- Possession of a Professional Electrical Engineering license in the state of CA and/or NJ is highly desirable.
- Experience working in the construction industry would be a valuable asset for this position.
