Bechtel Enterprises is the project development and financing arm of Bechtel, supporting Bechtel's engineering and construction business lines such as Bechtel Renewable Power. We co-develop projects with our partners; provide project financing services; support sales and acquisitions of projects, companies, and technologies for Bechtel business units; invest in the development of new technologies; and manage Bechtel ownership interests in projects. We have been involved in the development of over 75 projects, representing over $32 billion in project costs, and have helped arrange over $30 billion in financing for our customers.

Position Overview:

Renewable Power Project Development Managers are responsible for the development and financing of wind, solar, and other renewable energy projects.  This includes originating new prospects, screening and evaluating joint development project opportunities, conducting due diligence, negotiating joint development agreements, obtaining corporate approvals, and developing projects with our joint development partners.

Renewable Power Project Development Managers report to the Manager of Renewable Power at Bechtel Enterprises.  The open position is currently based at Bechtel's Frederick, Maryland office, which is the headquarters of Bechtel Enterprises and Bechtel Renewable Power.  Substantial business travel is involved, and project development activities may be in the U.S. or international.

Responsibilities:

  • Development activities include establishing and leading a Bechtel Enterprises project development team;
  • cultivating and building relationships with our partners;
  • working with our partners and Bechtel Renewable Power to develop projects;
  • managing the project development schedule, budget, and associated accounting;
  • obtaining site control;
  • procuring and evaluating renewable energy resource data;
  • preparing and implementing power marketing plans and negotiating power purchase agreements;
  • filing interconnection applications and negotiating interconnection agreements;
  • managing stakeholder / public / government outreach;
  • contracting with consulting engineers for studies and inputs to engineering;
  • obtaining permits;
  • entering into contracts for major equipment supply, EPC, and O&M; and project financing.

Qualifications:

Candidates for the position of Project Development Manager, Renewable Power will have at least 10 years of experience in the power industry, including at least 3 years of experience in renewable power in the wind or solar industries.  Experience will include project development, and additional experience in investment, finance, project management, engineering, procurement, and construction is preferred.  Educational background will include a bachelor's degree with a preference for engineering and an MBA or similar post graduate qualifications. 

Candidates will have demonstrated growth in job responsibility to a position of leadership, give evidence of commercial acumen, and show strong understanding of economics, regulatory, and technical drivers for renewable power projects.  Candidates will be able to function well within a teamwork environment, motivate people inside and outside the company, and work productively through ambiguous business situations.  Candidates will need to thrive on challenge and demonstrate good judgment. 

Fluency in English is required and a second language is preferred.  Experience living and working in both the U.S. and other countries is desirable.  Candidates must be able to furnish proof of identity and authorizations to work in the U.S. without future support.
