~ The Alice Ferguson Foundation (AFF) was established in 1954 as a non-profit organization chartered in the state of Maryland, and  is a leader in providing quality environmental education experiences in the Washington DC metro region. ~

The AFF's educational programs unite students, educators, park rangers, communities, regional organizations, and government agencies throughout the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area to promote the environmental sustainability of the Potomac River watershed.

Our mission is to connect people to the natural world, sustainable agricultural practices, and the cultural heritage of their local watershed through education, stewardship, and advocacy. 

Position Overview

The Project Coordinator (PC) will hold primary responsibility for assisting the Program Manager in coordinating special project related to Education Programming. The PC is responsible for performing a variety of support activities for projects, including implementation tasks, scheduling, budget monitoring, funder communications, and team coordination.

The PC works under the immediate direction of the AFF Program Manager and will collaborate with the full staff team, as well as funders, partners, stakeholders, vendors, and contractors to support project teams in timely completion of projects to advance the organization. 

Responsibilities 

Primary Role(s): 

  • Coordinate projects and assume responsibility for the development, administration, and promotion of specific projects as required.
  • Organize program staff in project implementation planning, initiate and lead meetings with all relevant staff.
  • Maintain project management system, including calendaring, for tracking deliverables and data in cooperation with program and senior staff.
  • Work with program staff, Program Manager, and Grant Writer to develop logic models and grant concept document for prospective projects.
  • Support implementation of consistent, need-driven, and outcome-based evaluation tools across educational programming.
  • Support the analysis and evaluation of student program assessment data for reporting and marketing purposes.
  • Support the development and implementation of curricula for AFF educational programming.
  • Collaborate with other AFF Coordinators to strengthen educational programming.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships as relates to programs.
  • Support the integration of BTW and HBF through effective programming and teacher training workshops. 
  • Identify and ensure alignment of educational programming to academic standards.
  • Support Program Manager(s) and staff in their daily administrative tasks, as needed.
  • Assist Office Manager and Front Office Administrative Assistant with tracking Program supplies.
  • Perform routine assignments as needed, such as those involving research, writing, spreadsheets, or local travel outside of the office.
  • Assist Program Manager with administrative tasks associated with educational programs in collaboration with the Front Office Administrative Assistant to support program goals.
  • Assist with gathering and/or preparing supplemental materials and attachments for reports in cooperation with program staff. 

AFF Functions: 

  • As directed attend Staff, Committee meetings and Board meetings to observe and/or take meeting notes.
  • Participate in special events: Oktoberfest, Spring Farm Festival, PRWC, members' events and other AFF-sponsored events as needed.  

Qualifications

Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: 

  • Relevant Bachelor's Degree in a related field such as environmental science, education, environmental studies and communications. 
  • Demonstrated public speaking skills, curriculum writing, and teaching skills. 
  • 2 to 3 years of project coordination experience across a range of activities.
  • Able to work both independently in the field and as part of a team, as well as be flexible and comfortable working in a fast-paced work environment. 
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and through writing, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Great organizational, project management, analytical, and problem solving skills. 

Plus: 

  • Basic environmental knowledge and familiarity with Potomac River Watershed area.
  • Comfortable working in natural, outdoor settings.
  • Graphic design experience including Publisher, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Photoshop, Google apps. 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Work takes place at Hard Bargain Farm in Accokeek, MD.
  • While much of the work is primarily performed in a sedentary position working at desk to perform the full duties of the job the employee is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. 
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move 20+ lbs., and/or move to 35+ lbs.
